I saw a scene on TV like this years ago. They said 'locking of talons' is actually a mating ritual the eagles do.

If you notice the 1st time at 0:35 , there was a fish in the talons of one bird and the other tried to take it while near the water. At 0:42 , we can still see the fish.

But in the 2nd clip at 0:58 , there is no fish in the talons as they climb and climb and THAT, when they 'lock talons and spin down', is a mating ritual.

It's not a 'game of dare' to see who lets go first.
