  • Never seen Letterman more engaged and enthusiastic in my life.

  • Comment removed

  • fucking brilliant!!

  • That Cosby bit (starting around 13:00) slayed me.

  • Quis-ling

    noun

a person who betrays his or her own country by aiding an invading enemy, often serving later in a puppet government; fifth columnist.

  • You could tell he made snl better, hell, the first celebrity jeopardy with him back was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

  • Just like Charlie Sheen, Fired for offending a suit

  • "And the pen! The man needs the pen!"

  • 15:00 - laughed out loud. People are looking at me...

  • NBCiles haha get it

  • Anyway, NBC sucks

  • I don't hear it but someone said the actor in this Doritos clip sounds like Norm MacDonald's brother - go to Crashthesuperbowl and put "tracker" in the search box

  • OMG - he kills me!!!!!

  • @snowboarder how early were you on youtube that you were able to get snowboarder as a user name??

  • I could watch Norm all day :)

  • Did you have a turkey there for the thing?

  • So good

  • i miss norm so much

  • lol this is the funniest shit alive.

  • "I just thought aaaaaahhhh, like that. But then the next day I sobered up, and I remembered, ah, you know that, ah, I still had some whiskey left."

  • HIGHass.

  • 73 people don't know how to spell the word Q-U-I-S-L-I-N-G.

  • QIZZLING!!!

  • the greatest talk show guest of all time

  • In which Norm MacDonald handles getting fired with incredible grace, then goes on to tell a gem of a story. The bit where he realises his father is dead is one of those stunning pieces of comedy that Norm seems to produce again and again.

  • Norm is 10 times funnier because he has a stutter

  • How ironic a Alex Trebek joke on Norm MacDonald's night

  • ohlmeyer was/is o.j.'s friend. norm made fun of oj too much on weekend update. fired.

  • Geez! Either Norm MacDonald did something heinous he can't discuss....or NBC are not so smart. Yeah, great idea to get rid of such talent. Way to go, dumbasses!

  • what a guy to portray Death!

  • I want to be as funny as this guy :(

  • Another beauty from Ottawa, Ontario.

  • well Norm, at least you didn't get your nose bitten off by a saigon whore.

  • @thisisoneidea yooooooouuuuuuuuu BASTARD!

  • @bjwiebe123 In the land of the smelly the man with no nose is king!!!!

  • @thisisoneidea in the land of the skunks...

  • Good God he's aaaaged.

  • SNL Died when Norm Got Fired!!!

  • quis·ling/ˈkwizliNG/ Noun: A traitor who collaborates with an enemy force occupying their country

  • Norm MacDonald doing Bill Cosby impressions days after getting fired is easily the funniest thing I've seen in weeks.

  • awesome interview.only letterman could have done this.

  • lmao! He told this Cosby story on George Lopez the other day. Norm's stories never get old.

  • two main reasons i watch tv

  • Watching this gives me a new respect for Letterman!

  • Norm was, by a long shot, my favorite comedian at the Bob Saget Roast. He was fantastic.

  • "Between you and me," on live television haha

Dave is great. Norm is great. This is great.

  • "I don't know what quisling means."

  • i could watch norm macdonald all day

  • 73 People work for Don Ohlmeyer

  • "He said to me, he said to me, he says..."

  • It's obvious he's just comfortable with Letterman and didn't want the firing to bring him too down. He definitely doesn't want to start running his mouth off at the execs and get in trouble.

  • This is one of the best interviews I've ever seen.

  • Norm was always like the uncomfortable comedian.... you never knew whether he was telling a joke or breaking character.... and that's what i liked the most about him... what kind of fucking douche fires this guy -the only reason i watched snl was for HIS weekend update-, and for what bullshit reason?

  • Norm is my favorite comic. I mean that guy could just stand and look in the camera for a half hour--I'd watch...

  • I love Norm.

  • he says to me, he says to me, he says

    omg I love that dude

  • Glad to have found this here. This interview made such an impression, when it originally aired, that I have a number of Norm's responses committed to memory to this day!

  • "He also think's that OJ is innocent..."

    Bahaha.

  • who cares about these thieves!!!!!

  • woah this was uploaded in 2005?

  • OJ jokes did NOT get Norm fired.

One of Norm's last jokes on WU: "At a press conference this week, FAA officials studying last year's crash of TWA flight 800, announced that they have pinpointed the cause: a frayed wire leading from the jet's fuel tank. According to the investigators, the wire became frayed when it was struck by a missile. That'll - that'll fray a wire."

  • @EarthBus That is quite interesting...I might have to search for that. He is pretty epic...

  • @EarthBus I looked up the transcript of it, it's from 12/13/1997. Thanks for telling us about that...

  • @folksinger87 Colin Quinn took over... he didn't want it, and he wasn't that good at it. Kevin Nealon was earlier in the 90s.

  • Who did take the desk next? Colin Quinn? Kevin Nealon?

  • @Tylerdude: Possibly, but my Canadian relatives pronounce While the same way he does too "why-L". The way British people pronounce herb. Is it "Herb" or "Err-b"?

  • norm macdonald lost his job, e i e i o

  • LOVE how Letterman handled this interview - hilarious and honest!

  • when norm smiles he looks like a young brando

  • I like the way he says, "sorry".

    "So-rie"

    Must be a Canadian thing.

  • @The38rakia

    Or a Norm thing.

  • Letterman is a living legend.

  • @Axerty1234 I'm a David Letterman fan especially compared to one-trick pony Jay Leno. The problem is David Letterman hasn't been the "Letterman" we all loved and remembered from the NBC days for the last 12-13 years now. He was so clever and funny, and did some crazy hilarious things back in the day. By the late 90's though he just stayed behind that desk, you could see it was just routine for him at that point.

You want to see some amazing Late Night TV...watch Letterman from the 80's& 90's.

  • At around 2:58, NBC had to cut out that part of the interview because Letterman called him "Happy Hour Don" in reference to his alcoholism. That's why there's sudden unexplained laughter.

  • @gsofficial WTF? The show was on CBS. Why would NBC control what's shown on CBS?

  • @Rager825 I meant CBS

  • @gsofficial s that why norm says "no hes a good man", in response to happy hour don?

  • @gsofficial how do you know this??

  • i love his voice

  • This is why I've always preferred Letterman to Leno; can you imagine Leno calling an NBC executive an idiot and a pinhead? And I know he was at CBS at this point but he did it when he was with NBC too. And he was genuinely supportive of Norm and showed it. Whatever you may think of Letterman, he's no phoney.

  • @chomsky88 wow.. well-said, my friend. ^^

  • @chomsky88 really because the reason I prefer Letterman to Leno is because Leno isn't now and never has been funny. ;)

  • @conanfan33 Oh, well, yes that too. Also, he's no quisling. Though to be fair Leno was funny a looooong time ago when he used to come out and do five minute bits on Letterman's old show. But once he stabbed Letterman in the back and took over the Tonight show he was boredom incarnate.

  • @chomsky88 Leno is the perfect company man.

  • @chomsky88 You're too right! Letterman's got big ones and Leno's got.....well, he's got nada. No big surprise there....lmao!

  • @xbuddhistxfistx That's the exact reason I love Letterman; defending Norm and calling an NBC executive a pinhead and an idiot--which he was not afraid to do when he was employed by NBC. Imagine the boring, backstabbing Leno doing anything like that?

  • @xbuddhistxfistx

Except NBC sucked and still sucks.

  • I wish I could hang out with Norm every day

  • @nickmordo I wish I could hang out with Norm for ONE day..

  • You know, Dave really hurt the ending by going back to that "be angry at your boss" stuff. He should have just left it at Norm's joke--it killed.

  • Norm's impression of Bill Cosby was the best I've seen in a long time.

  • why does it stop playing at 8:36? or is that just me

  • I actually liked Letterman here. Norm was so hilarious here.

  • 71 people dislike Norm getting fired

  • @mrspiderturd they didnt want conan. either way conan would hav been fired

  • 71 people like OJ

  • Comment removed

  • mostly I love how much David loves Norm...its really adorable.

  • @themack355 I saw this on another video but it's true, Norm Macdonald is your favorite comedian's favorite comedian.

  • genius

  • When did letterman decide to start mailing it in? He was awesome in this interview. He's so awesome as an interviewer here. I used to be Daves biggest fan, but *sigh* he needs to hang em up

  • Weekend Update didn't suck when and only when Norm was the host.

  • later he says don wouldnt let him off the show, hmmm norm also is telling us he sucks in the skits but will be allowed to be in them. Its like don wanted to ruin his rep as a funny guy but places norm in stuff he wont do well in so when the contract was up no other company take him. Considering don was a known fan of OJ and norm did plenty of jokes, many people believe he was fired for those reasons. Love ya norm...always

  • "He said to me he says to me he says..."

I remember Norm saying that line on Conan also.

  • Dave clearly loves Norm (who doesn't?). Having a buddy in the biz hat powerful can't be a bad thing.

  • Norm sounds and looks like Jello Biafra in this video.

  • i wish letterman was still that engaged in interviews.

  • one of the best voices in t.v history

  • No, no, he's not a pinhead. He's a, uh... he's a nice... he's a fat guy.

It's funny when you don't like a guy just 'cause he's fat, you know what I mean?

No, it's doesn't have anything to do with him being fat.

You know what I've always said? Comedy is subjective. I never really said that before.

  • The show after commercials is what 42 minutes? Norm got over 16? That's great for a guest, Dave respects Norm. Norm is one of the few genuinely funny people alive, doesn't need material or punchlines, can just sit and talk and crack you up constantly. He's one of my favs along with Adam Carolla, Tracy Morgan and Rick Gervais.

  • NORM was SO funny as the SNL News Anchor...to be fired for telling OJ SIMPSON jokes..is a travesty NBC SUCKS

  • you can tell dave really cares for him

  • @DiverseLA You suck.

  • @dlewis1498 What's Norm MacDonald doing today compared with other comics?

  • "He said to me he says to me he says". I swear cried from laughter.

  • Norm MacDonald was THEE funniest weekend update guy!

  • norms starring in a new CGI film!

    /watch?v=WmtzTu2rygk

  • Its disturbes me so much that so many years have passed since this happened, I'm getting older damn!

  • NBC tried to help Conan, the problem is, Jay Leno is a douchebag, and the TV scene is changing. Internet is to blame not NBC in regards to Conan, blame NBC for Norm for sure, and as far as Letterman is concerned...I wasn't around :)

  • I'm German, so I'm not really that good at distinguishing Canadian and American accents, but the way Norm says 'sorry' is definitely Canadian, right? :D

  • @McMaster2000 yup, is sohrry vs. sawrry... his accent isn't too distinct though since he's been in the states for a while.

  • This was 11 years ago? wow.

  • norm rules! look up his interviews with howard stern, really funny stuff

  • I must say I never really watched letterman, but he seems like a great host.

  • Norm is hilarious, he should've never been fired.

  • Why does Norm MacDonald always seem drunk?

  • "Hey cheerleaders, i haven't seen monkeyboy?"

  • Why did they fire Norm? Colin Quinn sucked cum out of a hobo's ass

  • "he's a good man" Classic Norm

  • wow dave is much better in this video than he is these days

these days he's just a huge liberal douche

  • @HandyMan101

Why cause he ain't down with you southern racist conservative Evangelical douchebags who want to start wars with Countries that haven't done jack shit to Americans whatsoever???? Maybe cause he's ok with Gay people or is ok with Mulitculturism? Maybe because he likes the idea of poor people getting health care? MAYBE because he doesn't want to see a guy who smokes a J go to jail for year? Yeah, it's ok to drink cause it's in the bible...SHUT THE FUCK UP

  • Omg his Cosby is perfection!!

  • The last decade has been a bit of a tragic story for Norm. Late 90's: voted 2nd best thing about turning on the TV. It's too bad he didn't play ball, but that was always his strength.

If you watch/listen to Stern w/ Norm on, he admits to being a 'loner'. No question he's one of the funniest men alive, but you have to be political to last. It's too bad he didn't listen to Letterman's advice in this clip.

  • so there are 70 complete fucking idiots that don't know real comedy that missed the like button and hit thumbs down.... shame

  • That Cosby story was the funniest thing ever

  • nbc is never wrong besides conan

  • Norm was hard on his sketch work but he was often hilarious in those too.

  • Same guy who fires Norm puts Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football. Gotta agree with Dave.

  • NORM IS FUNNY AND CANADIAN TOO

  • "He's a good man"

  • best letterman interview I've ever seen. he actually seemed like a funny and decent guy. and he let Norm go on for about 6-7 minutes more than the guests usually get. canæt blame him, Norm is funny everytime he opens his mouth.

  • Underated comic.....this is nice.

  • Letterman can say anything he wants because he has the track record with NBC to prove it!!!

  • Once the FCC is destroyed, Norm will have his own talk show.

  • Vidkun Quisling was a Norwegian politician that betrayed his country and sided with the nazis in WW2. He was tried for high treason and executed by firing squad. Today Quisling is a synomyn for "traitor" in many countries.

  • I love Norm.

  • 04:44 lmao

  • This was great! I was smiling [or laughing] that whole time. :)

  • Norm got fired for repeating every week that OJ killed his wife. NBC suit Don Ohlmeyer was good friends with OJ. Fuckin' depraved dickless shrimp.

  • @funboy7979 ... but still norm kept repeating oj jokes LOL. the balls on norm, luv him!

  • @funboy7979 SUIT

  • @funboy7979 Don Ohlmeyer had some big problem with Norm because not only did he fire him but also ruined his movie "Dirty Work" by not allowing promos on NBC. I always wondered what did he do to piss him off that bad.

  • think 1 of the main reasons why norm is soo funny/endearing is that he's genuinely honest & a good hearted guy. u can c it in the eyes, how awkward it is for him to lie like the rest of 'em. also he's unique in that there's still about him this boyish innocence... again, u c it in his eyes, & gestures - like sticking his tongue out lol. too bad it's usually aholes like don that becomes/stays successful.

& i believe david when he said that don guy is an idiot ;).

  • Norm McDonald is the Tom Waits of american comedy.

  • @Eaoleolo or Canadian comedy...

  • oops norm see im drunk loooooool

  • everytime im drunk i youtube orm loooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • god norm macdonald seems like such a nice guy

  • my father is dead.... good punchline

  • The Don guy fired Norm because of his regular OJ jokes just like he did one here

  • Love the heavy editing CBS did at 2:55...I can only imagine that Dave said about Ohlmeyer

  • According to IMDb, Dave called Don Ohlmeyer "Happy Hour Don" to make fun of Don's alcoholism. They edited that out of the broadcast.

  • He called him 'Happy Hour Don'

  • @BottomlessBen I didn`t notice that until now because the clip after that is full of laughter which meant he said something BIG

  • LOL @ His Bill Cosby story.

  • Norm kicks ass!

  • What a legend. Long live Norm.

  • and then all a sudden i realize my dad is dead!!

    '

    hahaha norm is hilarious

  • Letterman and Norm could be brothers!

  • funniest canadian ever lol

  • This is classic.

  • So basically, the funnier and more talented you are, the shittier you get treated by NBC (Letterman, Conan, Norm)...no wonder that station sucks now
