wow thats pretty good! but it isnt the best performance ive heard of it but definitely on my list of the great ones! the TMEA All State Mixed Choir did pretty amazing on it too! tho much faster it was still one of the top performances ever..
Vowels a bit too bright, which I found a little distracting. Especially the at the word "down" at the very end...it sounds SO nice, but the vowel is too bright.
It's usually hard to hear the basses in this song because their notes are so low, unless of course they are "basso profundos," like in the UNT rendition. Basso profundos are REALLY hard to find these days.
Overall, not bad...but the basses need to sing out more, the tenors and baritones were kinda overpowering them...also, the descant soprano was a wee bit out of tune...plus they took this rather fast. we're singing this now in my choir, and we're going a bit slower. But this wasn't all that bad
bladebloodykill, in most performances of this song you cant hear the basses, because the notes are so low. I'd be surprised if u could find me a video on here where u can hear the basses. I agree the descant was a bit flat though. This choir did a great job overall though
Well, your right. I'm a bass in my school's choir, and when we sang this, I, in fact all five of us basses had trouble getting those notes to project. The only part anyone COULD hear is that line at 1:12, "Cause the battle am in my hand."
lol, well, it's not that there's a lack of male singers at our school. Just most of our guys are either tenors or baritones. It's just hard to find basses. and the fact that two of our basses just graduated doesn't help matters either.
Wow, this choral group has the makings of a great champion someday. I'd love to see this group pair up or go up against the best choral group in the world today, the PHILIPPINE MADRIGAL SINGERS grand prize winner of the 1997 and 2007 European Grand Prix. God bless you guys!
cont. by the way... I don't know if its just with the recording or something...but I think I cannot hear the basses...tenors overpowered them. and the audio wasn't that good.
One more thing...the sopranos can do a little better...practice!
Carry the name of Brigham Young with excellence...^,^
this was one of my favorite pieces of moses hogan...I want to commend this choir for being able to make it sound (somehow) like the battle of jericho____however...this choir can work more on this piece by looking on the piece better...Try to apply the dynamics more...the sfz's...stacatto's, piano...forte..et. al...I assure you that you will be able to realize better the beauty of the piece...
moses hogan directed an honors choir i was in, and this is the speed he took. granted i've heard choirs he's directed take this slower as well, but this is the usual tempo for a good choir. particularly at the collegiate level...
Someone put a metronome on these guys... did they really keep with the speed? This is a rediculous speed... actually to ask tenors to do soloing at this speed. I don't understand why this song was performed at this speed. Let us grasp the chords in this. I have performed this song many times, we are losing the beauty of this song as it progresses. Killer Soprano solo.
I thought it was ok. It sounded as if they went a little sharp toward the end though. Maybe it was because the tempo was like the choir had to be finished by a certain time! lol But still good!
Well done - My only complaint would be that the tempo run-aways were a bit distracting. Of course, that's a common problem among all the Moses Hogan pieces.
this is probably the best version i've heard sung yet...its just a lil' on the fast side lol...of course the tempo is like 150 or sumthin, but it still seems a lil fast..but hey..its awesome lol
i like the descant it sounds really pretty.

Cry me a river! And then do yourself a favor: drop that cross you're carrying, build a bridge out of the wood, and GET OVER IT!!!
If YOU can't keep up with the tempo, well then excuse yourself, my friend: you're just a little slow.
As for the sound-- It's a home video. You're not going to pick up the best sound across the mic.
And our basses were just fine, exceptional even. BYUH Concert Choir Basses ROCK and RUMBLE!

Yo Ice-Man! It's me, Louis. Thanks for posting this video! I miss those days. That was a great season in Concert Choir. Respect to Gina on the solo.
And to all you CRITICS>>> STUFF A SOCK IN IT!!!
The tempo is too fast. You can't hear the basses. The sound quality is poor. :(...

Dude, type in "UNT Choir The Battle Of Jericho." It's one of the best I've heard. And in that one, you can CLEARLY hear the basses. It's awesome!

I love this song at this tempo. I haaaate when it's sung slow. It feels like it loses energy that way! Anyhow, Great job! : )
