do u happen to know if ur block was teksid or WAP? judging by ur enginge boom its the weaker WAP block. SHM tested the teksid aluminum block to about 1000hp and had ZERO failures. pull off the blower and look into the valley. if uve got rectangular crosshatching its the prefered teksid block and if its diamond shaped uve got a WAP block.
its the windsor since its a 01 cobra, teksid's only came in the 96-98 cobras and the mark viii's. fyi, its not the block that was the problem in this case though, it was the rotating assembly (bottom end).
the teksid block was used from 96-99 and some '01 cobras used it as well. you can tell its a teksid by the crosshatching in the valley. teksids have horizontal/verical crosshatching and thicker webbing versus the diamond shaped crosshatching and thinner webings of the windsor. you are right about the rotating assembly though...lower comp pistons would solve the problem, factory forged crank can hack it just fine. SHM tested the OE crank to 1000hp and had no failures
the thing is that not many people know of the teksid aluminum block and how strong it is compared to the 03-04 cobra iron blocks and yet weighs much less. the only bad thing about getting a 96-98 cobra is the weak T-45 tranny...the 99 and 01's had the better T-3650 just like the 05+ GT's
