Just great, thank you Fish, thank you Tamara and special thanks to Robert Mead (the boy on the "misplaced childhood") and i like to see Berlin in 80's because we can to see the pop "place to be" in this time!
This is a cracking 80's song. I hate the way a lot people get nervous or flippant about 80's music. Some of the most powerful and emotionally charged music was created in the 80's. This song and video is a fine example of that !
Okay so who are the ten swine who disliked this? I learned about them through Kerrang magazine. Sadly I think I was like one of about ten people who bought their material in the states. I still find myself coming back to this album.
This song is really fantastic. And the Kayleigh from the video is very beautiful. Quite the opposite of Fish´s hair which is one of the ugliests I´ve ever seen in my whole life!
@Thebritishgent Actually, the real story goes: Fish lived in a block of flats in which the tenants shared a bathroom. He would lounge in the bathtub for hours reading stacks of books & people would ask: "Is the fish out of the tub yet?" From the Mick Walls bio of Marillion, Market Square Heroes.
What a great acheivment with the sound of this album. Instrumentally they managed to mix crisp and clean with really warm tones, every time I listen I'm really impressed by this and the timeless quality it gave the album. Chuck in Fish's poetic, instrospective lyrics and you can't lose, a recording for the ages! Peace music fans!
Reverb or no reverb this stands the test of time - still sounds amazing, clear and warm. The reverb issue is entirely subjective - personally I love every single bit of processing that took place to produce this album.
This is part of the soundtrack to my own childhood. Misplaced or not, this song and the album will always be special to me. Probably my favourite Marillion album. I love the way the play around with the themes so they reappear in different forms as the album progresses. Tasteful playing, great lyrics and high level of musicality.. The band have done some good things with Steve Hogarth but the band's first 4 albums bring back precious moments. This is the classic stuff for me - unreplaceable!!!!
I was Named after this song!!! i went 2 days without a name because my parents couldnt agree on anything then one day my mom was listening to the radio and this song came on and she reminded my dad of this song and so its my name hahaha. and my sister was named after the song rhiannon by fleetwood mac hahah!
Superb band "huge high 5 to janhin345 for the upload" I feel the same way, If I hear It on a jukebox or anywhere and Its cut during the solo I cannot bear to listen anymore, If Its not I get a cheeky repeat for It being the original version lol.
@janhin345 Pardon if you have the album..there this song starts with a little prelude and keyboard pattern which leads to opening guitar riff. However otherwise the versions are equivalent.

this has been my favorite song since i first heard it, and i'm 55 - a beautiful song for your beautiful daughter. about 5 years ago i was checking out at the local drug store and the girl at the register had a name tag "kayleigh". i asked her if she had ever heard the song by marillion and she told me her parents named her for it. God bless you - your daughter is certainly in the company of angels.
