  • I have a question it's about the 7th book of the series (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) It came out about 5 years ago and I have it signed by JK Rowling. I was wondering if there was a way to tell weather the book i have is a first edition or not????

  • He, Ive been trying to figure this out. I have a Hardback novel with the sleeve that came in a 3 box set its numbers read 10 9 8 7 6 but it was printed and bound in Canada. It says Joanne 1997 in the book and has a young dumbledoor on the back i'm just wondering if it is worth anything at all also it has the Wand listed twice on page 53

  • @didileypits Hi there. Some collectors do like these early book sets. The prices on them can vary and in our experience the value is sadly better if split and sold individually. As a set I would estimate £30-£40, individually perhaps £20 each.

  • @rareandsigned Okay sounds good, thank you very much :)

  • I have a UK copy of order of the phoenix, and it has no printing run number, its just stamped first edition, it has the printed boards with matching dust-sleeve, any idea if its actually a first edition?!?

  • @soupie Hi - yes this is a First Edition. Sadly millions were made at this point so there is little value in this, unless it is signed by the author.

  • how much is the philosiphers stone paperback copy from 2001 worth? (the one with the stars around it)

  • @rareandsigned

Thanks for the video, it was really helpful.

I have one of the first edition paperbacks with all the relevant points. The only downside - I got it when I was 8 and my mum wrote our name in it...

Otherwise it is in good condition. Does this detract significantly from its value if all the rest is in good nick?

Also I read somewhere else that 500 hardback first editions were made, and a few thousand paperbacks. Is this incorrect?

  • @XxNailArtxX

    This is a 27th print book. worth £ 2 - 3 - not collectible one I am afraid

  • i found a copy of this book in a charity shop today, it has the young dumbledore image, has no space between the publisher's last name and the year 1997, has the numbers 40, 39, and 38 on it and has Joanne Rowling instead of JK Rowling, but it has "Winner of the 1997 Smarties Gold Award" on the bottom, obviously it cant be a first edition but what could it be?

  • Cool after watching this video I found out I have a first print. Bought it when I was a little kid on my first ever visit to London in the end of 97. I'm from Belgium.

  • Hi I have the paperback edition of the philosopher's stone with everything you mentioned in the video. On page 53 it has 1 wand listed twice. Has this any value ?.

  • Hi. Yes, the paperback was released simultaneously with the hardback and though less valuable can sell for several thousand pounds if in perfect condition. Condition is vital as many were read or passed to libraries, but even read copies can sell for £200 - £800.

I hope this info helps you !

    all the best

  • @rareandsigned

Thanks Jason for the onfo. Could you tell me the number of 1st edition first printings in paperback were released. I also have a hardback chamber of secrets exactly as described on the other rareandsigned video. Again I have no idea of numbers released and any value. Again the value is secondary as these are promised to my two nephews who are 9 and 6. Thanks.

  • There were 200 soft and 300 hardback books printed at the same time. They are seldom found in fine condition and are very expensive. In comparison to so few copies of this first title in the franchise, there were 10,150 first printings of The Chamber of Secrets, and 1million copies of The Goblet of Fire. More info on these can be found on our blog
