Best Jesus film by far. Side note: at the end of the movie when Jesus dies on the cross the film runs out at that moment. Scorsese thought it was a nice coincidence and they left it in.
Maybe he shouldn't go by impulse, or coincidence. Seeing as he aint won jack shit in his entire lifetime of film making I would say that there IS a reason why!
Wrong, try 178. If you even understood the inverse relation between IQ and mental retardation, you'd know that proscribing me 60-80 is *demonstrably* false. And please, unsub before I resort to blocking your dumb ass.
Gah! I thought I was about to watch the entire scene and then it breaks off just when it starts to reach a climax, or atleast it seemed to be reaching it. Why not show the whole scene? I really liked that Jesus made a circle instead of just walking the desert. Seems to be a really nice movie, eventhough their speaking american which is a noticeable minus. I liked parts of The Passion of the Christ.
For me, that *was* the climax of the scene, although it does continue, somewhat anticlimactically (IMO). Check out the full film, it's much better than Mel's Passion.
I think I remember somebody telling me that this film was banned, or CLOSE to being banned becasue it depiced Jesus as more of a tyrant that the stereotypical long haired hippy that everyone generally accept him as?
It was boycotted because it portrayed Jesus as TOO HUMAN for Christian comfort. Though, if viewed *completely*, it presents an orthodox theology of temptation, often the idiot masses (i.e. sheep) cannot see past individual scenes in isolation (such as the titular "last temptation" - which actually returns Jesus to the cross to "finish it"). A brilliant film, IMO, far surpassing Mel's violent symphony, the latter of which only offered flashes of theological depth.
Mel loves a bit of violence...you only need to look at Braveheart, The Patriot and Apolocalypto to see that. What is it with Mel, long haired, half naked men in blue paint? I do like his films a lot, even if Thunderdome is punishable by death!
Braveheart was an epic. His best film, period. Passion was a seriously weak attempt to convey *anything* of the Christian mythos. I'm not pissy about it because I'm a Satanist, on the contrary. It just did NOTHING to communicate the real substance of what makes the myth beautiful. Yeah, you heard it here.
Braveheart is awesome. But being a Scot I see it as more of a comedy. I mean they would have been more historcally accurate if they dressed Mel in a Mighty Ducks shirt and cowboy boots. The only really accurate part of that film was the fact it was was about some Scottish dude. Plenty of nasty englishmen getting their ass's handed to them makes up for the bastardization of the history though!
I think I've seen this film before, but it was a hell of a long time ago. I think I'll have to go out and buy it. However, I still think I will prefer Mel's film...I mean after all he did invent Scottish people!

I think Kevin Smith said it best: The Last Temptation made Christ a Pimp, and The Passion Of The Christ was just total "Hate Crime" on Jesus.

Yeah, I know, my apologies. I should have put a caveat in there somewhere: requires a third digit in your IQ.
