the 1960 galaxie has always ben my favorit car but the fender skirts have got to go it makes it look like a getto cruiser when they were new i never seen them with skirts, they totaly ruin the fine lines of the car .other than that this car looks great
@itstheoz1 It's not my car, just videoed it. I'd say that fender skirts and "continental kits" are the most debated "accessories" a car can have. Thanks! :) Jack
@lellie7x Hey, Leslie! The nice point about getting one that looks worn out is that you can get them at a reasonable price! You want to make sure, though, that they're safe before you take it out on the road! Thanks!
I was surprised to see my car. scatpack is right about the outside mirrors, but since the video was taken, they have been replaced with the correct mirrors. They are round with a sharp nose cone shape. A one year only mirror. I strive to keep the car as you could have received it in 1960. That 352 with the 4v is a powerful motor.
@bigskyranger I'm pleased that you got to see your car on You Tube! Glad to hear about the mirrors...my viewers do have keen eyes! Thanks for the comments, and it was a privilege to video your fine car! :) Jack
bunkie did work for ford back then and he brought with him his styling ..i think ford in 59 outsold chevy .and i think they got panicky with rumors chevy had a huge change comming for 1960 seeing the 59 did not do to well ..and it might also be bunkie [ not sure] but if you look at the full size 71/72 fords you can really see the pontiac-ish influence on the nose along with the 70/72 tbird and 71/72 cougar .they were all styled by a former pontiac stylist ..but i still like the 1960 fords
@390merc65 It's funny how talent moved around in Detroit! I'm particularly enamored of the 60 and 61 Ford hardtops...and I agree about the resemblance of the noses of those early 70's cars resembling Pontiacs...I do like the look, be it on a Ford, or a Pontiac! Thanks! :) Jack
@raconter1 yes it sure is jack...but back then you could lose your job at any of the big 3 in the 60's and 70's..go across town and get a job at another builder the next day ..that happened all to often,,,and that reminds me of the man who worked for studebaker [ cant remember his name] but i think he worked for ford in the late 1940's and it seems possible when you look at the 49/50 fords...
@390merc65 So true! The early years were pretty chaotic..the Dodge Brothers built engines for Henry Ford! Talent really migrated around..and when you consider that in the 20's there were soooo many American cars vying for attention from the buying public, there had to be many engineers and designers that were floating around looking for jobs as cars went out of business in the 30's. Yeah...the 47 Studebaker and 49 Ford do bear resemblance..deemphasis of fender line and plane inspiration! :)
@raconter1 at least in the era between the 20's and 50's you never went without a job ..to think of all the car company's in this country back in the day was really something..you could always find work ...now we have a shoe string of manufactures left ...we lost pontiac, old's..plymouth , mercury .saturn in recent years ...and seeing mercury go really kills me seeing i am a diehard mercury guy myself...hopefully soon it will turn around fort the big 3
@390merc65 There is no question that we came VERY close to losing GM and Chrysler. I think most of the blame was the autocratic way these corporations were managed..with very limited interest in what their customers wanted or whether they were satisfied with their products. I think the old biblical warning "pride cometh before the fall" is applicable here. It is inevitably what happens when corporations insulate themselves from the buying public. Mercury was left to wilt away! Thanks! Jack
Beautiful! I have a 61 Sunliner, Aqua over Aqua, love the car! seen your restoration of the 61 - thanks for bringing another back. cant believe how few I see around the Northern Illinois area
@JohnHaukland Hey, John! I wish this were mine...I just happened on it and videoed it. 61 was a great year for the Sunliner too...glad you have one! I think these cars are becoming quite rare! Thanks! :) Jack
I noticed that one of your viewers commented that this Sun-liner resembles the 61 banana T-Bird. I had read that the reason for that is Alex Tremulis who did design the 61 T-Bird did have some input into this car, although he was not credited with the whole design. There was some criticism about the tail lights and the overall design did not look like a Ford. Actually I have always liked this design with the flowing lines. This is a great example.
@cheddyrod Hey, Chester! I didn't know Alex Tremulis was associated with this car...things were pretty fluid in the design of autos during that day. I particularly like the hardtop version of this car...a workmate had one back in the day. At the same workplace, someone else had a 54 Mercury with the transparent top! Thanks! :) Jack
great example, i am not a big fan of the '60 Ford full sized cars, they really did lose a ton of Ford styling, if it wasn't for the Ford emblems and lettering, I'd swear it was something GM styled, the rear especially screams Pontiac for some reason, i do understand Ford hired some former GM people, but i am so grateful the '61 Fords went back with the traditional Ford styling, i just love the round taillights, makes one think of a rocket, or a Jet with afterburners on! ;) and thanks for sharing
@BRENTHENRY1989 Hey, Brent! I know what you mean about this car looking less like a Ford, and more like the competition. Bunkie Knudsen from Pontiac, a recent transplant to Ford may have had something to do with that. I fell like the sail panels by the back window on my 72 Mustang have a distinct "Pontiac feel". I think there were repercussions from the top, and the styling changed back. Thanks! :) Jack
Too bad they only did this body-style for only about one year. The only reason I could see why they changed it, is that maybe they thought it looked too much like the Thunderbird's of 1960.
@Sarcasticscum Hey, Nathan! From what I understand, Bunkie Knudsen, formerly chief of Pontiac had been hired by Henry Ford II, and he was unhappy with the design, particularly the tailights and the fins of the rear quarter panel. I think it's attractive...but then if the chief doesn't like it, its' redesign for the following year. Thanks! :) Jack
@MrBadassandy Hey, Andy! Very cool car...a lady I worked with years ago had a brand new 60 Ford, but it was the hardtop model. Very cool also! Thanks! :) Jack
