I, myself, think the whole song is in Chinese because the song fully can be interpreted in Chinese, but of course, many animse put the two together. Ranka says "nyan", the original is "niang". "Hao chi" and following are Chinese themselves. Saying "it was never meant to be chinese" is ridiculous considering it simply IS Chinese.

If that isn't clear then I'll explain it another way;

The original is "niang", it is a Chinese word, that is all there is to it. Ranka says "nyan" instead, and that's what the other things in Macross use ("Choujikuhanten Nyan-Nyan").
