sharab means namaz in the poems and when he says sharab etnee shareefana cheez hai ke pee kai sach bolta hai it means f u pray with heart u wont lie..i dont think poets would promote alcohol
I don't think it matters whether your poison is alcohol, the words do say this 'may be why alcohol was made haraam', I think the song helps us to understand human pain... and you don't have to be a practising muslim to love the message. It is utterly profound. Thank you a million for posting
The word 'Sharab' is derived from the arabic language which means drink not alcohol and in persian it's called alcohol. The word 'Sharab' in the context of the song may not mean alcohol as depicted above. As you are all aware their is a powerful 'sharab' in the eyes of a women etc? i personally don't construe the Sharab in this Ghazal as referring to Alcohol but to a different form of intoxication and bliss. Only the poet would be able to answer this that's why its called poetry!
A lot of great Muslim poets used to drink, Mirza Ghalib, Meer and many others. Perhaps it's the state of intoxication that makes them utter immortal words...
It's marvelous...I love this song....coz i love Sir Pankaj Udhas. Kitna mukaam-e-buland deya gaya hai sharab ko. What a high value is given to whisky in this song. No, I am not from pakistan, i am from Afghanistan and lived in New Delhi, India.
Thank goodness(THANKS TO ALLAH) Or how the evening goes Who madewine
We salute him God

well then why does he says in his song 'niklo na benaqab' that dont drink sharab 'mat pejiya sharab zamana kharab hai'
so sharab doesnt refer to prayer.
