i am trying to understand the distinguishing differences between classical tai chi and wu style tai chi as instructed by "eddie " wu, other than the emphasis of application of hip power. please help me with this distinction. thank you.
do u train them in holding postures first? cause the only way to really get good balance in walking, one needs to be able to support own weight first- then one can relax and learn to refine the skills
Exactly so. The first step in learning the tai chi walk from Master Hwa is correct posture when standing. That is relaxed, with straight spine, relaxed shoulders, slightly tucked chin, and slight tuck to pelvis, legs slightly apart and weight distributed evenly on both feet. This is the first lesson.
Once again, the lifting of the leg is accomplished by movement generated from the core or "waist" area. Also, forward and backward "pulling" is generated from "waist" which is stated by Tai Chi Classics as being extremely important in mobilizing energy for movement.
@TheZhongzheng Master Hwa studied under Grandmaster Young Wabu, student of legendary Wu Chien Chuan.
Glad you enjoyed the teaching and videos.. Master Hwa is a wonderful teacher.
