Great video and I agree wholeheartedly, there's a community here in Scotland called Findhorn and it's nothing more than a place for rich people to build whimsical houses under the guise of spirituality and reconnecting to the earth. Why does a childless couple need a huge 4 bedroomed house to reconnect to the earth? It's very sad to see genuine ideas turning into just another business venture for the people involved :(
@mei5050 - YES! I used to dream about moving to Findhorn when I was spiritual and later I realized not only how diluted it is, but also that the people that are living in these communities through their non-participation and refusal to take actual and equal responsibility for what is here, are actively co-creating the abuse, inequality and suffering in this world - and I had been one of them, totally missing the point of what equality really is. Thanks for bringing this up!
Great video, just a rarity among all here on youtube, you sure are a great thinker.
Living off the grid is something that has been going around in my mind for quite some time. The thing is, living off the grid should not: be expensive, available for all, not isolate people but uniting them. That is when I think it could actually work. The more we loosen our self from this crazy consumer society the better, but a community like you described is certainly not the way to do so.
What then are somne of your ideas? Are you vegetarian? I myself am a raw foodist, but before I went raw, I was a vegetaran for a while. I think that the meat undustry is abusive to animals, and that must certainly stop too. I would love to hear some of your ideas, maybe we can feed off of each other and start something.
I think communities can make a difference by not only being sustainable, but by inviting people that aren't interested in sustainable living to come out and learn their way of life. I agree with your video on many points. I just wish there were something people could do to change the world when there are people out there that don't seem to care. I do think that using trash to build your home (like earthships) actually do help, because they are reusing tires, and other trash.
@lusterwings - The Solution is to consider All life equally - this is what has never before been done - a solution implemented based on a starting-point of what is in fact best for all. Each of us are equally responsible for the whole that is here and as such require to realign and re-educate ourselves to live in a way where we stand as that responsibility in support and care of all life. That solution is an Equal Money System and a re-education of each of us. Check out the websites for more.
@annabrixthomsen Yeah, I think that's the issue, is taking care of others the way we would take care of ourselves. What do you think someopne can do without much income? I keep thinking I should maybe contact a rep for the local community and tell them that I am frustrated that supermarkets still have plastic bags, and that's just one issue. There seems to be so many, and I think first it starts with us and how we live our lives, then by what we teach others too. I like your video.
@lusterwings - What is required is solutions that involves and considers all - it might see un-graspable at first, yet it is none the less vital - we require to realize that we are really in this mess all together and therefore we require solutions that is based on considerations of what is best for all, not only humans or one's own family, but all life. Each can participate in making their 1 vote count and standing as an example, however we require to do that together as a group.
@BadassCeino - "showing others what they're doing" is also not supporting what is best for all and that is a general misconception, especially in the new-age community -- "at least they're doing something" is no excuse either -- the only way is to take equal self-responsibility for what is here and that means that we have to get our hands dirty and do what is required to be done to stop what is here as the systems of inequality and abuse we've currently allowed ourselves to be managed by,
@BadassCeino LOL - Nooooo!!! Let's simply show ourselves first - - simply as equals. It is time we come down to Earth from the spacy spaces of the mind as knowledge and energy where one is always superior or inferior to another - let's live in equal dignity. no masters - no slaves
All humans follow the self-interest for what they personally value. If I want to change the world and help others, it's because I VALUE helping others, not because I'm helping others. So even charity and aid are actually individuals following their peronsal self-interest. The good thing about these eco heavens, is that 1) they prove it can be done, that might encourage others to try it. 2) They are no longer supporting the exploitative system of taxes etc as much. i.e. not paying for wars.
@ProjectEndure - Living off the grid through money gathered in the very system one oppose, does not make one any less Responsible for sorting out what is Here - In fact these communities are the very manifestation of Deliberate Abdication of Self-Responsibility. We have as Humans have clearly proved that "personal values" mean bullshit and can not be Trusted to act for what is Best for All.
With Standing as the Living Principle of Equality We Bring a New World to Life.
Where ever there are humans you're going to have ego . It's better just to go deep in the woods and live by yourself off the land if you can't put up with humans and their egos.
@RobinDropping - Unfortunately not many people have that option. Which is why we have to change the entire System that it is based on - and unequal Money-System based on Greed, Self-Interest, Fear and Survival! Support the Equal Money System for The End of All Ego - For The End of Abuse and Suffering!
@annabrixthomsen I just make my own decisions and not rely on other people to do their part (do the right thing) . This world is going to face many harsh realities , but will people learn ? According to the track record , no. So when living in a world where people are creating a hell of their own making (From the very top , to the very bottom), I'll look after myself first . That doesn't mean I'm selfish . I'm just not going to force anyone to do what's right . They wont listen anyway .
@RobinDropping - I agree with you that we are Self-Responsible for the Hell, we've Accepted. It is most likely so that people don't listen, but are you coming from a perspective of judgment or emotional reaction towards, then you are not gonna be able to listen either - To me this is not about right or wrong - it is about what is Best and it is obvious that One must always start with Oneself
@annabrixthomsen Most people are useless when it comes to things like an Equal money system, so I'm not going to rely on them to even consider such an idea . I'll admit I like capitalism , but I hate exploitation of the people . I'd rather see everyone being equally rich(a real free market with an equal money system) instead of equally poor (communism or fascism). In the meantime it's business as usual as the world moves toward one world government and people are none the wiser.
thanks for pointing this out - the whole 'sustainable living community' lifestyle being presented as something that will 'make a difference' is obviously total self interest based on feeling special and good about oneself for being more 'ecologically conscious' - based entirely on self definitions and assumptions - ignoring the basic problem of the money system
Cool point - these self sustainable communities are another form of self interest where they are only looking for a solution to have a good life themselves while not caring about the rest of the word, as you said 'drifting away' from it all - what's even worse is these type of communities are being 'erased' and taken down by the government here (silent massacres) So, as long as it is not the Totality that creates a change, as long as it's only a few = it won't work and stay the same Thanks anna
awesome points anna - i can relate - when i was a raw foodist, i was planning a trip where i was going to travel the world and visit all the eco-villages and then write a book...how fucking unsustainable is that! lol - flying here & there to see how people think they are living sustainably and making a difference?!? when they are really living in ignore:ance and separation, thinking they are superior & making a change...wtf! yes - it is all about starting point! & the desteni farm is an example!

I agree with you totally baby girl, but this could be just a start for these people to show others what their doing.
Unless their just saying, " HEY LOOK AT US, WE"RE LIVING IT UP & YOU ASSES ARE STILL SUFFERING & LIVING LIKE SLAVES".
I doubt thats the idea.
Atleast they are doing something.
Love your video though, keep it up.

@annabrixthomsen I totally agree with your statement, self interest does'nt solve anything,
Whether by a small group or by a single human.
Probably you could be the one to help show them how to branch out
& help others to live free like them.
Probably your the one that community needs to show them WHAT YOU SEE.
You seem very intellectual, you could help them excel even more.
Just a thought, your energy is beautiful anyway, keep it up.

yes, it is far too late and the problems are far too big for buddah statues and self-centered escapism to have any effect.

great point to look at in common sense and self-honesty, especially in north europe and the 'rich' countries of the west.
how long are we gonna blind ourselves in 'blissful light' while half the world suffer?
practical common sense required!!!
thanks Anna for this direct experience report!
