Cats CAN like water, I have a cat that will simply lay in the bath tub when I give her a bath (2 inches of water, mind you), but that doesn't mean I'm going to throw her in a 4 foot deep pool to she if she can swim.

I have a cat who sticks her paw in when I'm taking a shower then takes it out, shakes it off and sticks it in again. But I would still never stick her in water. She gets brushed every other day and wiped down with allerpet wipes twice a week (the wipes are due to allergy). I adopted her from my local humane society a few months ago (she's 3 yrs. old) and she's siberian forest cat with some main coon. She greets me at the door every day when I come home from anywhere.

That reporter was acting like its miracle or an impossible feat for a cat.. There's not a huge list of animals that can't swim that i can think of.. And most animals will probably only go in the water if they have reason to i.e. cross rivers, migrations, catching fish, and desperate attempts of escaping predators.

The reason cats doesn't like to swim is their hair is much softer than dogs and sucks water like a sponge so they can't swim long distance and get tired very easy, but yes they can swim and they swim very fast which no dog ever can.
