  • 2:10

  • Awful noise...

  • Thanks for the video to bad you were not able to cut it to the good parts thanks for the video!

  • The pattern seems to be this: Every third Thursday in June, they run the annual 3-minute test of all the sirens for TMI. It's usually announced on the news a day or two beforehand.

Every other month, the first thursday of each month at 8:00 AM, a very quick test is done where the siren will only hum for a second or two. It's extremely easy to miss and not worth trying to catch.

The replacement sirens so far have been Federal Signal 2001s with one exception, some sort of ACA siren.

  • @blackmaxima They had that today, my mom said that they set the test alarm near her work today

  • Why is it going off?

  • @Typhoon10UK testing

  • @Typhoon10UK

they run sheduled testing to see if the siren works to inform the residents of middletown pa when or if a possbile hazord at the power plant. they do monthly testing now it is required they run these tests . The siren is only used when a emergency happends.Just like the emgerency board cast the siren is run so the siren is tested if their is a problem with the testing some one from the power plant comes out to inspect it and repair it.It is to inform the residents of the area.

  • You guys who like sirens so much should check out the Third Movement of Michael Gordon's "Weather". For me, it's everything chilling about these sirens captured, concentrated, and converted to music. Really amazing stuff for a siren enthusiast like me.

  • ook not bad but you aint ...lmfao (kinda reminds me of a blaster) GOT ONE that will make ME cry?

  • 3 mile island lmao

  • three miles island always remmebers me of bam magera LOL

  • @mantradirect The sirens are remotely activated by someone at the county's EMA. They could be activated individually, or all at once.

  • @kidsruledude What about the nuclear power plants? If there is an emergency, don't they have a way to activate their own siren system?

  • @mantradirect it coukld spread to other places so they have 96 sirens all over the area surrounding 3 mile island

  • It's that time of the year again! This thursday at 12:15. I'm going to a p-10 this year.

  • i don't like very many aca sirens but this one sounds great !!

  • The shaking makes for more drama! You're fine.

  • DO you have different sirens? Like one for a tornado and one for Nuclear Plant?

  • there is a xt22 there i heard it in a video pm me if you want the video

  • P-50 right?

  • hmmmmmm but what if it wasnt the test

  • this happens i my place to, i just found out yesterday that we had them, as i hear in the distance "this is only a test" then multiple alarms blare in the distance

  • I live in East Petersburg and hear a siren just about every Sunday. Not sure what it is. Anyone know?

  • i live about 3 blocks from a Cyclone and that thing makes my house vibrate

  • I can hear sound :P

  • where is this location is it near new york?

  • no, york pennsylvania

  • dude you could of editied out the start, i watched over 1.30 and nothing happens

  • I live 10 miles from Three Mile Island near Elizabethtown, There is the exact Three Mile Island issued siren approx half a mile from my door, It is tested at least once a month.

It's loud as hell and is the exact tone of this one.

    Very eerie and disturbing.

    Julia

  • Oh God, The sound of doom.

  • thats an annoying sound....well..at least it will get your attention!! i wonder how far away you can hear it.

  • Holy fucking shit...............this has to be the loudest siren on YouTube!!!!!!!

  • A friend of mine told me that a Nuclear power plant (that is shut down now) had alarms that would randomly go off, and the alarm was different than all the other Nuclear pwoerplants because it was a low loud hum that would vibrate the ground, by the way we have a lot of these by over where I live, and one time I was driving and they all went off in a test and it almost gave me a heart attack ._.

  • Chilling. Shades of the Cold War......

  • a nuke siren went off just a couple of months back in wirral. (its by liverpool, just over the water) something went wrong at the refinery in eastham.

i could hear it form wallasey, where i live.

  • i like the sound of the older ones when it goes high then low. not that its good to hear those sirens lol

  • Actually, I did hear you say you felt the sidewalk vibrating, at 3:36.

  • Exelon is going to replace all 165 t-bolts around the Limerick plant, so don't be surprised if they replace all the sirens at TMI also. It will take place sometime this coming summer. They want sirens that have battery back-up, which the t-bolts do not currently have.

  • What are they replacing them with?

  • Comment removed

  • I honestly don't know at this time. When I find out, I will post.

  • @phybergod The replacement sirens are being installed. Chester county sirens are being done first. They are installing ASC T-128 or T-135, I thnk. On a side note, our sirens have never been used for tornado warnings.

  • I can't remember the last time I heard the siren. I just to hear everyday at 12pm.

  • I am willing to bet that you hear the cyclone on TMI in the beginning of this video. I just looked up this location and found the siren using "birdseye". it is about 1.5 to 2.5 miles away from TMI and that would be the closest dauphin county siren.

  • The area near me has a few Cyclones, one on Pleasant View Rd near my high school, one off Spanglers Mill Rd, and one in downtown New Cumberland near where I live. Guess it could be any one of them.

  • I agree with you that Dauphin co always starts theirs up first, so that was probably one in Dauphin.

  • Was this some kind of annual test of the alarm system?

  • That would make a great alarm clock especially if there wasn't a snooze button!

  • I'm going to see one of the exact same sirens that is about 10 miles away tomorrow!

  • Very cool siren. It seems like the dual-toned ones are rare.

  • that certainly gets the point across.

  • yes, yes it does.

  • This is the first siren vid I've ever watched. Now I love sirens!

  • i watched a essex flood siren test and nowim hooked too

  • omg i didnt realise how loud they actually are...

  • This would be a single phase P-15.

  • dear christ thats loud

  • Skip to 2:10 if you dont wanna wait.

  • I forgot to come over here a week ago but the TMI sirens will be tested tomorrow at 12:15!

  • I saw that on TV. I live in Hershey, and MY GOD are those things loud lol.

  • Each month where I am.

  • those things are everywhere in east liverpool

  • i've seen a siren like this near my apartment! and there's an allertor nearby too.

  • The P-10/P-15, a guy named Clayton Werden now owns the patents to them. I think he renamed the P-15 the P-127, because it was originally a P-15 then ASC made them as the RM-127.

  • Did he inspire the siren model "Clayton Whirlwind" ?

  • No, that siren model is much older than you think. Definitely older than Clayton Werden, who owns Werden Siren.

  • Makes me wonder then how Beaver Valley get's away with rarely testing there sirens when the NRC requires them to do it at least once a year

  • I live in liverpool, it goes off qute often(one every 3-4 months)

  • Comment removed

  • I like P-10 tornado sirens. Even though they are very loud. I like the mustard yellow color.

  • They call it Civil Defence Yellow. :)

  • I want one!!!!!!! For the neighbours lmao,at 2am in the morning. Would be so funny! (I'm in UK)

  • On Sunday March 29, there was a tornado warning here in a local county. The TMI/Tornado Warning sirens went off. I am wondering if I heard this type of the cyclops'. Anybody know which ones went off or if both of them went off? The tornado warning was for York co but I was outside in Dauphin co.

  • I have noticed that Beaver county is putting more and more 2001s in and removing Allertors

  • I live near Beaver PA (but I don't live in beaver, not even in the county), when they test the sirens there (very rarely), you can hear them from where I am at. But as I said, I don't even live in the same county the alarms are at, so its a loud siren. If you had no clue they were testing, you wouldn't even hear it. But if you knew they were testing, and you listened for it, you would most likely hear it.

  • Beaver, if you don't know, is a short distance, north west of pittsburgh.

  • gotta love these sirens here around harrisburg lol

    what a great sound =p

  • I live close to TMI and yes it was broadcast on the news when the testing day and time was

  • I am so going to post a siren this june on Youtube if it kills me lol

  • it was a cool sound but it took like 3 mins to start it up good vid!!!

  • wow this is right by my house :) i love when they test these

  • that is loud i helping my bro do a report on three mile island i shound him this he jumped when it when it went off. do they warn you when they do a test in your town

  • Even though i'm not the OP, I think I can answer your quesiton.

They always warn you when they are going to do a test. They warn you many times many days in advance.

-vacation resident of inside the "ring of death" of the formally Maine Yankee

  • O M F G ! ! ! !

I HAVE SEEN SOO MANY OF THOSE WHERE I LIVE...and THAT'S MIDDLE TOWN XD

I LIVE SOO CLOSE TO THAT PLANT XD

  • can you see ski round top from where you're standing?

  • Yep! Just a few miles west of me. This is right near Rt. 177 which takes you by Roundtop.

  • I made a video of this day, but I was only in my backyard. I will have to upload the video of it soon.

  • dont see a year in the discription either

  • wtf man? you knew this disaster was comin or this isnt actual footage from 1979?

  • Wow...maybe you should actually read the info...

  • Yeah, he went back in time in 1979 and posted it on YouTube in 1979, too. It's really cool, he built his own time machine.

God, you're a fucking idiot. Put 2 and 2 together. Or maybe, use your damn brain and click "More Info..."

  • Don't be angry because you asked a stupid question.

  • im not angry, the first comment was a joke, thats the lame sense of humor you when stoned. im very sorry people, lets just live together in peace. i promise i wont go on youtube when under influence anymore. have a nice day.

  • Lol. then you have no life.

  • this is Pennslyvania correct?

  • yeah

  • it sounds exactly like an allertor. is it just the same chopper but with a different projector?

  • Yep, pretty much. Apparently, the Allertor sirens had issues with ice accumulation in the upper projector.

  • that would make one absolute hell of an alarm clock once its finally retired lmfao

  • they also use the sirens for weather as well.

  • I remember when i was at camp and a siren from a nearby nuclear plant went off. My freinds thought we were being attacked by aliens.

  • Sounds like the SD-10 kinda..

  • IT DOES....weird

  • The Allertor also sounded like an SD-10 this sounds like an Allertor because this is an Allertor accept in a different housing.

  • le scqrred there buddy ur shakin

  • My eardrums are convulsing just watching this vid.

  • Sounds like a radial arm saw

  • I just now thought about this, but in the movie silent hill, the siren sorta sounds like this. If you ever hear this siren and it is not a test, grab your shit and RUN!

  • Grab your shit and shelter in place.

  • you shelter in place and you wont live for long. you have to get out of the 10 mile radius at least.

  • yep i live in etown which is very close to TMI and i have one of them like in my yard. Its scary to live so close. The siren is so loud you cant tell by this video.

  • WOW! that start up sent shivers down my back

  • yep. i went to gettysburg yesterday, and i head one while i was on little round top.

Damn thing sounds like a leaf blower.

  • Believe me, I live within the 10-mile radius of Three Mile Island, and you KNOW when these babies go off. I can hear at least three separate ones from my house. The closest one to me is like a mile away.

  • We have several of these sirens in Port Washington, WI. They are mainly used as tornado sirens. I live 2 blocks away frome one.

  • grab your kids !! grab your shit !! and get the hell out of the area !!!!!!! THAT MF-er is awesome !!

  • That. Is. BADASS.

  • It's still there I'm pretty sure. What he meant is that the ACA Penetrator/ASC RM-Series is no longer being made American Signal. The Tempest 128 sirens replaced them.

  • Correct, this individual siren is still in place and active (when it needs to be).

  • that siren sounds great. sounds insanely loud lol

  • this is not really a reply to you coment but is an p-10 and p-50 a eletronic siren or a air-raid siren? if you dont know then someone please awnser back!

  • Not electronic, they're driven mechanically via an electric motor. Like the old air-raid sirens. An electronic siren is nothing more than a large speaker with the circuits to produce the tone (called a siren driver).

  • ha not THIS is an awesome alarm clock!

  • ROFL it would be :P

  • also an awsome fire alarm

  • you bet lol!

  • Well the original P-50

  • Oh man-I remember waking up to this when I lived in York Co, PA..This brought back alot of memories!

  • Ohh, was this in Etters, the Cyclone along Potts Hill Road?

Yes, I was out that night and was part of that.

  • Too bad TMI never had any T-135s :-)

  • Do you mean a newer T-135 or an original P-50?

I'd say that a Cyclone would blow a newer T-135 out of the water. haha

  • Wow that made me think. just hope that never happens without the test.

  • weeeeell... they are. there's one a few blocks down my street that hasn't been tested in a few years, so they just tested it today(set our Acura's alarm off, as well as our neighbors' Volvo, Lexus, and some guy's Porsche, so there were car alarms everywhere.), and it was fucking loud! nice, but very, very loud.

  • lol. What do they do, just flip an "Oh SHIT!" switch? Or is it an automated alert?

  • auto alert. or manual. whichever is needed.d

  • Yeah, they only test annually. That is NOT enough, especially since I can count on one Penetrator failing per test, and Peach Bottom's T-bolts get tested monthly and they're right near us too.

Supposedly they do "electronic testing" weekly, but that may as well be meaningless.

  • You can here the relay switch slap :-)

  • Siren starts at 2:10.

  • WOW! Loud Penetrator!

  • HEL YEAH!

  • Wow! Great video! That P-10 is loud!
