  • Rita had long thick and STRAIGHT hair....

Other than that, I absolutely love your video!!!!!

  • @BGASchwa Actually, her hair was naturally very wavy. Mine is straight. I had to add the waves. :) Rita did have very thick hair though and nope...can't help there. haha

  • @BGASchwa Rita Hayworth was half Spaniard and had THICK, WAVY, hair.

  • I love your makeup! Tutorial!? I noticed someone else asked but didn't have a response!

  • @megatronicks It's just my standard 1940's makeup. See my 'Puttin on the Face' playlist and my Starlet Series. There are many variations on this look available.

  • hahah!! Omg, I laughed so hard when you said "do the Gilda" and then said "Me?" hahaha, epic :D Thank you for this tutorial!!

  • Do you have a tutorial for that makeup??;)

  • bellissima! you really know what you are doing, and your hair is lovely!

  • THANK YOU LORD FOR GIVING US REAL WOMEN LIKE LISA THAT ENJOY TO TAKE CARE OF HER SELF AND MAKES THIS WONDERFUL TUTORIALS FOR OTHER WONDERFUL REAL WOMEN!!!!

  • When I use sponge rollers they don´t stay up, they roll themselves down. How do I get them to stay up?Also I get almost no curl at all, it becomes more like a curve att the end :-/ I was wondering, is your hair layered..?if so, what are the lenght of the layers?

Love what you do, you are amazing!

Love from one "alike-thinker" in Sweden!

  • @TheNostalgicGirl see my 'how i roll' video. I think it will help you. Yes, my hair is layered...at this stage, the layers were about ten inches.

  • you probally did not clip them, aftr you roll them up you have to clip one end inside, you should hear a snap. or else they will pop out(:: hope it helps(:

  • if i did this with pin curls, i would just roll in the same directions right?

  • @CancerousPiesRTasty yep! With even better results!

  • OMGAH! FINALLY a perfect tutorial for Rita Hayworth hair! Do you know how far and wide I have searched? lol. Seriously, you're amazing! If possible, do you think You can do Rita's hair from "You Were Never Lovelier" I thought it looked so cute. Keep it up (:

  • @iluvrimmel did you try it? did it work? :P

  • were do u get ur pomade at?

  • @StefieBam I sell it. Visit Lisa Freemont Street dot com and click on the 'shop' link to see the Layrite products I use.

  • Hi, just wondering what kind of brush you use to get the curls out...? And if there are any particular brands you'd recommend for brushes ^_^ brilliant tutorial, just ordered some sponge rollers myself!

  • @hattymail I use a Denman nylon bristle brush from Sally's. :)

  • I did this style, my first time ever doing a vintage style, and omg my hair looks amazing!!!!! My hair is fine, thin, and has never been able to hold curls from anything hot. I finally tried rag rollers and my hair has never looked better!

  • hey, i LOVE your tutorials im completely addicted and think your so talented and your videos are so much fun to watch :D i was just wondering where you purchased your sponge rollers, i live in the uk but am having trouble finding sponge rollers even online if you got them in a store in the U.S it doesnt matter but if you have any ideas where i could purchase them online it would be much appreciated :D again thanks for your videos and i hope to enjoy them for a long time coming xxx

  • @xXhugglebunnyXx search ebay. In the UK , they are known as 'foam rollers' I beilieve.

  • ok so i totally love ur vids but theres jus one problem...i have african american hair so how do i do similar hairstyles and what products should i use???

  • @10CherryCola I believe a setting product like 'Motions Foaming Hair Wrap' thru your hair will be a great thing for both pin curl and hot roller sets. Do you usually straighten your hair?

  • @LisaFreemontStreet yes i straighten it and thanx for your help keep up the beautiful work i'm so glad i found your videos :)

  • Absolutely love all the music you set your videos to.

  • Silly question, but, did you wear those rollers overnight after you sprayed your hair? I listened twice and didn't quite get it. :-)

  • @cierralisette not this time...I sat under the dryer. But ideally, leave them in overnight. :)

  • K@@L

  • i love your makeup in this video what are you waring video please!!! or is their a video alredy on ur makeup??

  • @MakeupArtistshanL this is very similar to my Vintage Bridal Makeup video...

  • you are so beautiful! and every time i watch your videos i get so inspired! i NEVER use heat....so your videos are always very helpful, now i dont have to be in two braids all the time...i can ACTUALLY have cute hair and feel girly :)

    thank you so much!

  • thank for the tips

  • what do you mean by "rolled upwards"?

  • hey lady! I'm Italian and I really love your style sooooooooo much! XoXo

  • Beautiful, thank you so much for this! I did a vid tutorial on this using hot sticks but yours is so much better! xx

  • I <3 authentic stlying!!!!!

    Two questions:

    1. What are brush rollers? (I've never herd of them)

    2. What do you recommend as a setting lotion?

Thanks. I loved this video. 5 stars!!!

  • @modernkitten Brush Rollers are the ones that look like a bristle brush encased by a wire mesh. You roll the hair in them and then use a plastic 'pick' utensil to push thru the mesh and secure the roller. They're common among the 'older' set. :)

I like Lottabody Setting Lotion and I also appreciate Motions Foaming Hair Wrap Lotion, which is like a mousse and available in the ethnic sections of most drugstores.

  • lady you are a beaut! :D

  • I would loove a tutorial for the make up in this video! Do you already have one? x

  • @Tastethevirus This makeup is very similar to my vintage bridal makeup...

  • Your make-up is so completely perfect in this video. Can you post what you did and what make up brands you are wearing? Thank you kindly!

  • Ohmygosh. This was just the look I was looking for. I do have that curly thick hair. And living minutes away from Tennessee in Alabama, I know what you mean about the horrible humidity. You can imagine all the effort I can put in a hair style just to step out the door and POOF...puff ball. I can't wait to try it...come winter time. :)

  • I have to say that your hair looked VERY Gilda when you flipped back up from brushing your hair. :) At least in that scene where she actually did, "Me?"

  • Thank you so much for this great tutorial, I just tried it and the first result is quite good. Gonna try it again! :) I wish I could see the tutorial you made on Gene Thierney's hairdo in "Laura" but it's unavailable in my country. :(

  • love this !! thank you lisa ! this came in handy

  • I was waiting for you to sing "Amado mío, love me forever" ...ABSOLUTELY CHARMING AND SEXY AT THE SAME TIME

  • So I have subscribed I have always said I would have loved to be a kid in the 50's and an adult in the 20's! lol anyways I have been watching your vids for a couple months and have tried to do some of the looks. I just can't seem to brush them out when I do it frizzes and I end up looking like a poodle. Any tips? I bought the sponge rollers and everything but its disappointment every time when it comes to brushing it out lol.

  • @Stahlherz I found mine at Walmart try that and it's unexpensive too!

  • yay thank you for revisiting this video! i love rita hayworth videos and videos for long hair. also, i like that you used spongerollers instead of heated rollers this time. :) good job!

  • Thank you for showing the layering with the rollers AND which direction to curl the hair! I'm still trying to figure out how to set the rollers and work the curls into the directions I need. This was VERY helpful, THANKS!

  • oh my gosh you are so gorgeous!! love your videos <3

  • Great video! My favorite look to duplicate.

One tip for you gals with fine hair who doesn'y want to wet the hair completely, wrap the hair more tightly around each roller. That way, you should be able to get a more structured curl without the friz that comes with a wet set.

  • i'm loving your makeup in this video, very glamorous:)

  • First off love your videos and your blog!! :) Im a new interest in vintage style! I was wondering where I can get the Layright product. also my hair is shorter than yours and holds curls exceptionally well for some reason and I was wondering if you had any tips for achieving your looks better. Thanks! Hope

  • @HopeLedbetter I actually sell it in my shop...just click the tab at the top of my blog.

  • @HopeLedbetter

    @LisaFreemontStreet

It is absolutely great pomade! I recommend it hands down! I have very fine hair and it keeps my hair well in place, yet bouncy.

And I also recommed LisaFreemontStreet shop, absolutely good and very quick service! :)

  • Your hair looks great (as always). your hair seems to grow very quickly.

  • The photo at the end is gorgeous!

  • Hi Lisa, I have a question. Do you sleep with sponge rollers in? If so, is it particularly uncomfortable? I sleep with pin curls in most nights so I'm used to the feeling of having stuff in your hair while asleep haha. Because sponge rollers are quite bulky I was just wondering if its too uncomfortable?

  • @MissThomCat yes I do...I don't find them too uncomfortable if I keep the rollers around ear level. If I roll them all the way to the scalp, at the crown, they are a bit obnoxious.

  • I sleep with them as well.....I find them even more cushiony!

  • I sleep with them as well.....I find them even more cushiony!

I just don't like all of the flyaways I get when I wake up :(

  • @Stahlherz they sell the foam rollers in pink a pack of eight and in black slightly smaller in a pack of ten at dollartree for of course a dollar a pack.

  • great video very pretty. love your videos

  • I was looking for those hairrollers in the stores around here and I just can't find them x.x oh maaaan~ x.x Can I order them online? I just need the right name of them, since I don't find anything with "spongerollers" xD lol (or it's just me <.< )

and yes, the look is beautiful! thanks for the tutorial!!!

  • @Stahlherz I have to apologize. I have always called these 'sponge rollers' but they seem to be called 'foam rollers' now, in stores. Go to amazon and type in 'conair foam rollers' in the 'beauty' category. A bunch of them will come right up!

  • @Stahlherz go to the dollar store or one of those cheap 1 dollar stores, they do have the foam and/or sponge rollers

  • I cannot wait for my hair to grow! love your vids so much :)

  • Every time I watch one of your hair videos, I always wish my hair was long enough (or that I had human hair wigs) so I can do these looks. Just wonderful!

  • @BlancheBabcock *BIG kiss on your hairless head*!! :)

  • I like it!

No, I love it! ;) Your eyebrows look great! (Yeah, I said that)

  • Thanks for posting this! I can get curls from hot rollers... until I walk outside! I also have fine, thin, straight hair so it's great to know that this style is possible for me!

  • This is gorgeeeeeousssss, you look stunning :) I can't wait till my hair is long enough to look this good (maybe) set! haha

  • Perfect!

  • You are so pretty :) I'm also very happy you used those sponge rollers: they are the only one I have !!!

  • i <3 frank Sinarta.

  • I'm SO JEALOUS! Your hair is SO PERFECTLY like Rita's! I wish my hair behaved as well as yours! I love this tutorial, as well as the very first one! :)

  • love your hair color !

  • So so lovely!

  • very classy ty for this

  • OMG....ive been wanting to cut layers because i thought it would help my long hair maybe look more vintage. Now I am going to have to do it now that I know i'm not the only one who thinks this can help! Thanks Ashley! BTW Your absolutely glowing, best wishes for the little ones!

  • Hi, Do you know of any YouTube hair gurus that do vintage hair tutorials for short hair? Thanks. :)

  • @novaface I have a bob haircut that I love, but sometimes I want a vintage look to it - so far I've had no luck finding any youtube tutorials though

  • @novaface not yet. I'm still trying to find a short haired gal to sit for me. :)

  • Could you do a video dedicated to styling tools. From brushes, combs, rollers, clips, bobbie pins, etc. I know you've done videos on hot rollers, pomade and hairs pieces separately, but I didn't see or know if you'd done one that was all inclusive. I guess I am looking for an all in one so I can make of list of things I need to add to my arsenal. Thanks for the red hair vid. I'm a red newbie and was glad to know the fading etc was not just me....now I know how to do an up keep.

  • @RedSatin69 that would be difficult to cram into one video. I have done a video comparing roller options but other than that I usually just list the things I'm using in my videos. You'll definitely see a pattern there...

  • @LisaFreemontStreet Thank you for your response. I do understand. Just thought I'd ask. :O) Have a wonderful day.

  • @RedSatin69 I'll definitely keep it in mind. :) Perhaps I could split it in a couple of videos. I did a 'makeup must-haves' video...I could do a hair styling video too. :)

  • Looks divine, as always! You know Rita has always been one of my favorites and you're right, her hair never goes out of style. Lovely tutorial, doll xo

  • Lovin it as usual xxx

  • YAY! Thanks for the foam rollers. I am having the WORST time trying to find hot rollers here in Sicily. And I DO have wavy thick hair.. so youre awesome thanks!!! high five for Ole Blue Eyes!

  • Great tutorial, and great song. Going with the lyrics and Ignoring what the word means nowadays, I'm a Tramp too!

  • I love doing this style, especially during the holidays. Looks lovely on you.

Gotta love me Old Blue Eyes!!

  • I can't wait to try this look. I love the hairstyles back then and have been looking for ideas but this look is gorgeous! :)

I was wondering, how sponge rolls are and do you put them in like you would hot rollers?

I have never used them before and i will be buying them this weekend.

    thanks for the video.

  • @rashay114 You can see me rollin my hair in sponge rollers in my Gil Elvgren inspired Pin Up Hairstyle video.

  • rita was so beautiful!! she had such a bad life, poor woman.

  • I absolutely love all of your hair videos! i naturally have really, really curly hair, which makes anything but a wet/towel dried set almost impossible! it's also pretty thin and prone to frizz. do you have any suggestions of how to accomplish this look using a wet set?

  • @WearingAubergine This is considered a 'wet set' because water is the principal styling aid. It will probably work for you. I just don't start w/ hair completely wet...I spray each section damp instead because of the desire to maintain a soft wave.

  • loove your videos so bad! may i ask what webcam you use? the quality seems very nice considering its not digital! i have learned a great deal from you thank you for all your awesome uploads!!!!!

  • @MizeryLovesCompany77 Logitech Pro 9000? I think that's what it's called. It's the same one MissPumpkin uses.

  • Sponge Rollers are just so much bette rin general. they are cozy when you sleep in them, and for me, they make the curls last longer. I love them! and of course, they are healthy for your hair(:

  • @xxPOISONEDcupcakeXX I totally agree. More comfortable, you can sleep in them, easier to put in and take out. You can even use them on kids without them being too fussy.

  • do you have a tutorial on spongerollers in general? and how long were they left in?

  • @darlinglinnie123 No but you can see me rolling my hair w/ them in several of my videos, principally my Gil Elvgren Pin Up Hairstyle video. I lleave them in until the hair is dry...it's hard to pin point a time because everyone's hair is different.

  • OoHh! Did someone get a new camera?! the quality of this video is amazing!

  • @BeemDawgBrie THis is the same one I've been using since January. :)

  • <3 <3

  • so pretty :)

  • Love! Thanks!

  • I love this look! I am so excited to try this out. If only women wore their hair like this more often ;)

  • :) All I have to say is, you're looking wonderful! Let alone you being able to style your hair, your make up is fabulous as well.

  • ahh! i love you so much :D i need to try this one
