hmm...it is a large assumption to say maryland's "desire" was to secede (not succeed btw) from the union. most historians today contend there would have never been enough votes for secession. delaware was also placed under military control as well even though they wanted to stay with the union. also, the mason dixon line has nothing to do with the civil war.
