You're extremely close, and your playing is ridiculously amazing, but when you go up from 3, 5, 7, he doesn't go back down to 3. He does E3, A5, D7, G7. Just tryin to help. (:
The thing i like about this is he does a great job about showing you how to play it without talking. Most 90% of the how to vids bla bla bla all they do is talk. a little less talk and a lot more action. keep it up.
Excellent playing and faithful to the recording. You chose an interesting way to instruct. My only complaint is that it would be nice if you (verbally) gave chord names, fret or string numbers, advice on how to play a given part--whatever. In any case, great job and thank you.
This is a very good tab explanation but when dave plays it he doesn't seem to be using any string plucking, more like up and down motion. any idea how he does it or maybe the extra strings just get muffed out with the rest of the band? Can't seem to find a acoustic version buy DMB of this song solo
i am only picking the strings to show which ones are involved - when i play it out, it is strummed. I don't know how dave does it, but typically you use the left over fingers on your chording hand to mute the strings (you lay them on the strings without pressing down) - as well, you can still strum without hitting all the strings.
@Zenex666 i know you left this comment a year ago but i just found this vid now. you mute all other strings. a good example of this technique can be found in "can't Stop" by the red hot chili peppers where john frusciante strums all the strings but only lets one ring at a time, it gives it a nice sound when you play it clean
That is because Dave Matthews plays that D on the 10th fret. Watch the acoustic version on YouTube.

i see so many people take that D all the way to 10 for some reason.i think they like to make the song look more complicated than it is.

haha, i hate trying to show people how to play stuff slow cause it loses all its flow and it doesnt sound right.
