@FaganRoberts You're a fucking idiot. 25,000 people were killed in Dresden. 166,000 people were killed in Hiroshima alone, so if you add the 80,000 people killed in Nagaski that's 246,000 people killed by those atomic bombs. The radiation emitted after those bombs exploded killed untold thousands on top of that for years after. Learn you history and don't make crass sweeping comments.
Take it easy, Hirohito, it makes no difference the manner by which our adversaries are killed. Between 35,000 and 135,000 people were killed in Dresden. Bear in mind this was a refugee center at the time so the exact figures will never be known. Stop looking at inflated Wiki figures for Jap deaths. You're making a fool of yourself.

@scfromdc "why not kill hitler...?" That would be a bad idea. Unless you were referring to a point in time when the world just knows he's an asshole. The lessen would still need to be learned, too early it'd be pointless.

I supported Harpers $30mill "cut" (of the $3Billion/yr). Most of the "classics" didnt have some state funded gravy train to moneytown and they created brilliant peices. I hate to see taxes going to a "deep" red line through a blank white canvas for $700, that some gr.2 could paint.
If an artist has talent, they make cash. If an artist truly loves their art, they continue, regardless of funds. Its wrong to fund natural human expression. If there was NO funding at all, art would still exist.
Maybe it's because slavery and the holocaust are complicated issues, there was not one quick fix to either of them. Also, The List tends to be satirical in nature and those are both touchy subjects, it is easier to leave them out than to try to restore feelings with an apology after wards.
Could argue about the Maginot line in 1940 The very purpose of a fortification IS to oblige the enemy to go around it, in order to trap him in some corner (the Ardennes). It worked well but the real flaw was that the mouse was stronger than the trap.
in your spare time. Maybe you might have to get a crap job to pay the bills if you want to pursue your dream. Why do I, as a tax payer, have to pay you money to create things that don't make money or major impact socially. Art will be art regardless of government funding. Networks in America can make money...why doesn't the CBC try that for once! Sometimes you have to actually accept that it's a business and you need to make money.
Why the 'I' bullsht? We are all canadians. We are all affected by each other's actions. If you do not want to care for your neighbor, then get out of the neighborhood.
The government does not create art. Art happens regardless of funding. Artist's have been struggling for survival throughout history. Why is there an obsessions nowaday's that they need to be subsidized? Art is not profitable for most people (sad fact). So you might have to do it
Your comments just make me sad for you. Trust me the world is a much better place when you choose not to be so filled with hate. Now, I'm not saying get rid of you now (I know you wouldn't support that) bu would this not be a better place without hate? You be fair.
Had the first world war 1 not happen the rise of the reds in Russia wouldn't have happened either, Who knows how long the Tsarist regime would have dragged on ? My guess is that Tsar Nicky would have fucked it up regardless and you'd have a revolution 10-20 years later.
I wonder if Franz surviving the sniper bullet would have change anything? Although he seemed like a pretty a peace loving type compared to his peers.
Save Franz Ferdinand and you would avert the first world war and the resulting post war conditions that aided Hitlers rise to power. Franz was a pretty progressive guy he had some great ideas as to how to save the Hapsburg empire and make like a Swiss confederation type thing accommodating all the nationalities of his kingdom.
The band got its name from a racing horse named in the honor of the "Arch Duke" Franz Ferdinand.
You don't know who Franz Ferdinand is??!! Not surprising knowing the state of our education system. You'd think they'd cover the subject of all the wars Canada has been involved in over the years...Especially since that was world war 1.
I don't know why so many people need to insult people who like art. I always thought that art was a good thing. That is was a way for a society to look at itself. Sure some art does that better than others... but at least it's thought provoking.
If you don't want your tax dollars to fund it, that's your opinion, fine. But, try to make an intelligent agrument for it, rather than explain how one bad show you saw, or how you don't like artists, should bring an end to public funding of the arts.

Yeah! Maybe Russia would have been the ONLY superpower after WWII! If that were the case, communism would be the way the world would be run by now. I mean, without a big elephant to keep the Reds in check, what would have stopped them, other than the American iron curtain? Certainly not Britain, or any of the other allies from WWII, they were all either devastated by the war or too weak to stand up against such an economic and militaristic giant. Too bad the US wasn't partitioned up.
Good point, but it has to be recognised that the USSR crumbled more or less on its own accord. It was not a Communist state; it was a fascist dictatorship with a benign label. People should always make that distinction. Maybe if the USSR really WAS a succesful communist society the world WOULD have been better. Tho, even if it was succesful you might have to assume somewhat that Russia would have attempted to invade the rest of the free-market Capitalist world in a traditionally militant fashion
You make a good point yourself. I didn't make it clear in my comment, but I do realise the difference between actual communism and what Lenin and Stalin had set up. It is a myth that the Maginot line ended at the Belgian border and was easy to circumvent. The fortifications were connected to the Belgian fortification system, of which the strongest point was Fort Eben-Emael. The Germans broke through exactly at this fortified point which made it possible for them to invade France.
How about not stay so much on the defensive during the War of 1812? I mean, we got down and burned down the White House, methinks we probably could have taken the whole country. And it seems to me like things would have generally gone better if Americans were South Canadians. They would have been nicer.

How about going back and stopping Adscam, and saving taxpayers 100 million.
Ooops this is CBC, don't mention that.

I'd leave #4. I thought it was awesome theatre when Roy told Ron Corey that he had, "just played my last game for Montreal".
That was a beautiful moment.
