no, get an amp. They're more expensive for the simple reason that when it comes to good tone, you can't cut corners. At least not this many. If you later wanted to record that tone, THEN get this. I'm not sure as to how well a job this does, but I'd be willing to test it.

@TrustairXL id get something else, like some pedal effects, a new amp, or something made specifically for what ur looking for. if u want a really easy way for that, check out native instruments guitar rig. its only 200 from the website so u could probably get it for 100 and has many different effects and stuff

i was using my fast track ultra for the first time then out of nowhere the front lights started blinking,my computer stopped recognizing and only popping sounds come from the headphone jacks! help! please!!!

I tried 11 (ELEVEN) different interfaces and they all crashed. Focusrite Saffire won't even past driver install. Not to mention the embarrassement returning it to the stores 1 by 1... Audio is great. Dont listen to lies. XP is shit. W7 rocks. Vista did also but had performance issues. You need Dual Core for it. Audio is excellent.

anyone having problems with thier fast track ultra. im having a problem that i guess alot of other people are having as well.... the fast track ultra wont recognize the computer. every time i power down my FTU and my computer the FTU has to be turned off for about 10 or 20 seconds once or twice to get it to show that its online again. its just annoying other than that it works fine.

i wanna do some recording at home, of my guitar. i thought it would be cool to be able to connect my guitar to a device which connects to my computer- have some preamp programs modify the signal then have an output to my amp, does that exist? id like to have a mic jack on it too. my marshall amp only has 1/4 jacks. my laptop has usb jacks. anyone help me out? also- are there guitar preamp programs that sound good? tube emulators for distortion, maybe pickup emulators, and the usual effects

Ummmmm yeah I use it and it works fine in Vista! You have to first download the original programinterface fromt he m-audio website. Just google M-audio fast track ultra and download the driver. Then go in and disable all your default system sounds ex. Microphone, Wave out mix <--- Those kinds of things and it should work fine!

Vista is the most horrible thing you can have if you want to work with Audio. XP works so much better. If you want take recording and audio/editing seriously...get something else than Vista..seriously

yes you can rap with this...the thing that you need is called audio interface...check it out at tweak's guide...more detail. BTW I would recommend the presonus firebox over any m-audio products.
