Putting a genre on Buckethead is impossible, he doesn't play one thing, even in his songs you cant nail just one genre to any song. He plays MUSIC and all of music...if anything, he made a genre on his own "Pure Awesomeness."
@Shaqhawk Well, Primus has its own genre, according to long-time fans. I think Buckethead's music its own genre too, don't you think? I can't find anything by anyone else that sounds close to his stuff, so why not, right?
@uofm97 I can not find any one near anything that buckethead has done but i still don't think that his music is his own genre because it is too diverse really. I also think Buckethead was making his music with out the thought of "I want to achieve this feeling/sound/technique...etc" I think that Buckethead was just playing music to match his feelings
i fuckin love the shit outta bucketheads heavy shit. ive been practicin spokes and this song for about a year now. in about another half year im going to play them with my band live to show fuckers what real heavy music is about! btw maggot ur teh fuckin man!
when the boogy man goes to bed at night he checks his closet for Chuck Norris, when Chuck Norris goes to bed at night he checks his closet for Buckethead
would people agree that he has three styles of music, Mellow guitar such as electric tears and colma, heavy rythmic such as soothsayer and final wars and random riffs and sounds like songs off kalaidascope album?
He has plenty more than that. He can do blues like Population Override (search for Too Many Humans) and hardcore metal like Bucketheadland 2 and Inbred Mountain and Island of Lost Minds. He can also do melodic metal like King James and Stretching Lighthouse, pretty much all of Pepper's Ghost and DTTOB. He can even do funk, like Fizzy Lipton Drink from EMAC.
Are you just applying song genre's you've heard about and put them into BH songs?
All of Bucketheadland2 is Avante Garde Metal. And king james is Progressive Metal. Crime Slunk Scene is a combination of these to with mecha gigan and the well known soothsayer. King James is in that album too. Most of his songs fall under these 2. A lot of his other stuff like The Great Eyeball in the sky is funk.
well just because he plays one song with the bluegrass feel doesnt make him a bluesgrass guitarist. Hog Bitch Stomp being the only 1 song i've found.
Many guitarists play a variety of music. When Buckethead plays anything jazz, youre probably mixing it up with blues.Jazz usually has ragtime with syncopated beats or swing and ive yet to see that.Plus, with Bh's natural minor (aeolian) is one of those that can be easily alters to a blues or jazz scale. For blues all you have to do is add the 4th.
and if you want to get technical, nearly any band can have more than one genre.
There are always debates like the one about Parkway Drive being a metalcore or hardcore band. IMO they're metalcore, but the DVD's say they've had hardcore influence.
and in my last post, it's supposed to be altered*.
When you 1st start playing guitar, and after a few months you're introduced to blues and stuff. And you probably started off with learning classical. So that's you playing 2 genres already.
yeah. I'm trying to get different influences now b/c my guitar playing started sounding too much like BH. I also like LOG, Born of Osiris, After the burial, All shall Perish, some In Flames, and other bands too.
Yeah a lot of buckethead fans don't really know anything about other music and anything about music theory.
I always see people say "he plays hundreds or genres." But they can't even name 10. Mainly b/c they're only like 12
And there a lot of avante garde musicans and bands out there. There's like this one band called Behold the Arctopus. They're horrible in my opinion guitar-wise. But as for song-making they're quite amazing and weird. Try to remember how to play any of their songs.
there is a shit load of genres more then 12.. i can name them off my head, blues, fusion, rock, heavy metal, hard rock, jazz, orchestral,nu metal, acid rock, dnb, techno, death metal.
Anyone can name the genres. But you don't actually listen to all of them right?
I don't really care for genres, but i just don't like how people use it as an asset for BH. I love him for the music, not for how many genres he can play or how fast he is.
industrial metal, industrial, dark wave, new age, vintage rock, acid jazz, acid blues, punk, R&B, noise, electro wave, avant-garde, experimental, alternative, progressive, indie, neo-classical, doom metal, black metal, gothic rock, punk rock, swing, folk, freak folk, tribal, ambient, power metal, j-rock, funk.. there are many variations and combinations but that pretty much covers it.

People are so stupid...
Not all rap is the same shit you hear on the radio.
I listen to quite a variety of genres, including Buckethead. However, I absolutely hate mainstream rap for multiple reasons.
1. It sucks.
2. It gives good rap a bad name.
When I'm depressed, the only music that makes me feel better is hip-hop. Underground hip-hop...Where they rap about things that mean something.
I, myself, play guitar, keyboard, piano, and have just gotten into actually rapping myself. ...Yeah.
