I was wondering the whole process of ploughing if someone could please help me. my basic understanding is you take normall bumpy land and then plough it over, Then you disc that? I might be doing this to my hay field which is terribly bumpy and id be doing this with a gas tractor, any advice?
it dont matter wut kind of tractor u use as long as it can handel the plow. but plowing the feild isnt just to make it smooth. its to turn over all the trash (dead grass small sticks ect) and to bring up the fress soil underneith. and after u disc it or use a cultivator to smooth it out and make a seed bed.
@Tractorracer5812 No matter what type of tractor you use when plowing an existing hay field, expect to drop one gear when plowing, because you have to plow up those deep set hay roots that have rooted into the dirt for several years. If you normally plow in third gear, you will have to drop to second when plowing an existing hay field.
i have one and i still use it to brush hog with. i love that thing. i am new to farming. can i actually use this thing to farm a few acres and if so what should i farm with it. lets say 5 acres. any help please.
there is no reason u cant use it. used a wd-45 of my paps with a 3 bottom plow untill we got a larger tractor last year. still use the wd45 to cultivate, its gass and its gonna cost u if urs is. they have all the power you could use though. that snap coupler is kind of a pain though. we now use a 5 bottom semi mount on 3 point. any questions/comments just mail me on my profile.
we have a 1951 WD,use it quite q bit, mow, rake, sow wheat,i even took it on a tractor cruise last summer, just used it today, hauled off a load of iron to the gravel pit
This is a great tractor, my family still operates 2 of them on about 600 acres of field and hay ground. We still operate 2 of them to mow, rake, plant and cultivate. We have a set of discs for them, but usually leave tilling to the bigger tractors. There was a year that our '45 was the only tractor running, and we did everything with it. Don't let anyone say you can't farm with this tractor. Farmall, huh!
Ah, the smell of fresh earth. Good to make that tractor snort, too. Nothing worse than a show piece that putt's around the fairgrounds with nothing to do.
