Of course, Kooper's old band the Blues Project played this song the very next night during their set. Kooper had left them after what he said was a very bad acid trip. However, his departure was due to the fact that he wanted to make a few changes to the band such as adding a horn section. Of course, the very next year he formed Blood, Sweat and Tears with another former Blues Project member, Steve Katz on guitar.
@thewiredrabbit You are quite welcome. However, Kooper left after the first BS&tT album and they went from being a heavy, bluesy band to being more of a lounge act with David Clayton-Thomas on vocals.
Not a bad number. Probably an ad-hoc cover for an absentee act. Al reports having been technical producer for the festival. Wonder if anyone captured in this film can remember having been there. Including the entertainers.
A throw together Jam at Monterey (where Al was STAGE MANAGER of the Festival). Not the best but look at the backup musicians!!!Elvin Bishop and the drummer from paul Butterfield,Harvey Brooks from the electric Flag, and AL HISSELF!!!!
Love looking at the audience in these Monterey clips. It's interesting to see surfer dudes and bouffant girls, mingled among the stoners and hippie chicks. They're all pot-bellied grandparents now...
Al Kooper from the Blues Project (B3) ,Elvin Bishop(gtr) and Sam Lay (drums) from thePaul Butterfield band and I believe a young Harvey Brooks on bass, from the Electric Flag. All have connections from backing up Bob Dylan in '65 as well. Amazing ,never saw this before. Lots of mixing and matching at that festival.Correct me if I'm wrong!
Amazing video quality! I need to find a hit of acid and watch this again! Thanks for posting.

Unnhhhh, yeah. This WOULD be Monterey Pop; not the Jazz Festival.
Although the Jazz Festival does traditionally feature a blues afternoon & evening, it is always in the fall, not June.

Wonder if Stevie Windwood got any inspiration for "Gimme Some Lovi'n) from this?

@putzengiler I think that's Billy Davenport on drums. Sam Lay had been out of the PBBB for a long time at this point.

@putzengiler think the drummer is the second Paul Butterfield drummer, Billy Davenport...
