The hypergolic engine in the Descent Module is not the 'flame' you see in science fiction movies. I spread out, and had a cushioninig effect. AND, the probes on three oif the legs that activated the 'contact' light were six feet long.
This means, at 'contact', the engine was throttled down for the landing. The four legs of the LEM acted as shock absorbers
