Are you guys really kidding? Ivo has a great serve because of his height, which troubles all of his opponents. The thing is he doesnt NEED to jump. All the other guys jump because they need to lift themselves to his height. Yes, it might help him, but is it really worth it? When you serve from higher to the ground the projectory of the ball tends to bounce higher. Try it. Serve from the service line, then the baseline. Your serve from the service line is extremely higher. That's how Ivo feels.
I doubt he got to the final of queens just because he had a good serve... hes been 14th in the world before. he can play tennis, its just other skills get out in the shadow of his awesome serve.
I promise you he has better groundstrokes than 90% of the world... why don't you have a baseline rally with him and see whether you last? Promise you he'd win.
@PrasSF yes...but if you played his backhand like most of the guys do on tour, you MIGHT have a chance. A small chance, but atleast its somewhat doable.
You MIGHT have a chance, yes, but can you consistently hit it deep to his backhand side? He is not nearly as bad as people make him out to be. It's just tiresome to hear that without his serve, he's nothing... he has a solid slice. a good forehand, and is an extremely capable volleyer... the only reason the pros make him look like a fool at times is because they have impeccable footwork and placement, which if any of us had, we'd probably be trying out for the pro tour.
*Continued* I am not saying that he has an amazing topspin backhand, I wouldn't even be surprised if some people on here have better ones than he does, but you think he doesn't know that? He is one of the best players at maximizing his strengths and minimizing his weaknesses, which is why I highly doubt he would consistently lose baseline rallies to any non-pro. I am the furthest thing from a Karlovic fan there is, but he doesn't deserve all the hate he's getting.
lol not not even 1% percent of the world play tennis it would be more than 90%, you dont break rafael nadal to love on more than occosion unless you have decent groundstrokes
roddick is a better server than karlovic, nice joke.. have you ever actually thought of considering the stats.. this year alone karlovic tops the atp rankings for the highest % of service games won(91%) and has the most aces this year.. roddick is most certainly a better player than karlovic but not a better server!
no sorry dude but karlovic is ALL speed. sorry to say this but no amount of denying is gonna make it untrue, Federer has the best serve, he doesn't need speed he uses placement and spin, and can always pull out the goods when he needs them, and for all those fucks who doubted him the past year, hes comin back, big time.
he has the best service game in the modern tennis. by far. not only because he speed and angles make most of his first serves unreturnable, but because he also has one the highest first serve percentages in the game. last year it was 69%.
He can volley well, which I saw at the Artois Championship this year. However, when he stays at the baseline he plays not as well as his net approach. He just has to sharpen his skills apart from his serve and volley. Still a great player to me! He is just a gentleman.
my fav player of all time! A player that sends chills to the victim on the recieving end of that monster serve and a player who is truly capable of beating (or losing to =P) anyone on his given day.
how can you even say that when he's served 153 out wide? just because he's tall doesn't mean he can get away with amateur technique. and yeah this style certainly hasn't worked for ivanisevic, ljubicic, or ancic either, has it?
Wtf are you people talking about? He does jump.

it's not all in the height...there have been a lot of tall players who didn't had powerful serve
roler93 2 years ago
imagine karlovic does the roddick serve(the motion and the racket speed) lol. he'll have the worlds fastest serve
polipoli7 2 years ago
not necessarily - you have to develop a style which suits you, copying roddick's serve might decrease the power
EscapedC0nvict 2 years ago 2
roddick has a technique of his own, it shouldn't be copied lool
007toft007 2 years ago
yeah i know, i was just suggesting. its a thing of beauty
EscapedC0nvict 2 years ago
Does he really need to? Roddick's fastest serve has 2mph on Karlovic's. He just has to use that height of his.
TheNYFlame 2 years ago
fucking genetics comes down to the fact ivo has a great serve - unlike arod who gets more power out of his serve even though hes smaller
EscapedC0nvict 2 years ago
he is all fluid but it doesnt look like he has the same racket head speed like others on tour
appppppppple 2 years ago
The taller you are, the slower you look. That's as fast as he can swing.
Snaurt 2 years ago
it looks like he relies on his height to much...if he were to jump into the court i think it would be much better

And aces aren't everything. You have to take on unreturned serves as well.

by the way if you want to talk about bad technique, boris becker used a forehand grip and landed on his back foot, want to diss his serve?
GobTheIllusionist 3 years ago
Forgive my ignorance as I don't know much about tennis, but what is the signficance of him getting 153mph 'out wide'?
DaStuDogg 3 years ago
I doubt he would hit a 153mph serve out wide in the AD court, if so, that is a hell of a speed to hit out wide on the AD court...
SoooBlue 3 years ago
well, for me, it's easier to serve on the Ad side and i'm right handed.
nen6425 3 years ago
The natural angle on the deuce side is out wide and for the ad side it is down the T, but then again, we all have our personal preferences.
SoooBlue 3 years ago
if he hit that same serve down the middle of the court it wouldve registered faster on the machine
