In response to IMC CU NIMB ICING ... it is the planes identification call sign also relating to the weather conditions and problem, type in the "message" on a search engine and look at Mike's answer relating to the call sign
When the pilot calls IMC CU.NIMB.ICING what does that actually mean? Or is that just trying to represent the difficulty the pilot is having trying to contact the control tower
@h3ll0b0b Actually, that part of the message indicates he's in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC), which basically means he can't fly visually; he's flying through a cumulonimbus cloud (thunderstorm), and his plane is icing up, which can either kill the plane's lift or clog the engines.
Having seen Oldfield twice, one in San Francisco for Five Miles Out tour in '82 and once in Los Angeles for Tubular Bells II 20th anniversary tour in '93, I have seen/heard them surpass the album experience on both of those occasions. They were among the best concerts I have ever attended from a sound quality and total experience perspective. This video does not measure up to what I saw live - not even close.
Even if this live version isn't as good as the record it still is very good. Do you know how hard it is to use all those effects at the same time live? You can hear that the vocoder and echo on the voices aren't quite right....... But still Mike and his crew allways rocks live! :)
@eddie51500 sometimes a live version of the song that is different from the studio version is what makes it unique and better in that way, at least you know they didn't just replay the studio version for the crowd
Very poor for a live version. Poor Barry Palmer is hopelessly out of his depth in a live setting, and caused nothing but aggravation for Maggie the whole tour...
I dunno, Personally I think this is better than the studio version, mainly due to Simon Phillips and Phil Spalding, two great musicians. The sound quality isn't great on this clip, but I have a soundboard recording from this concert tour and it's amazing, Crises in particular
To be fair, I think it's a brilliant song whether played live or not. I think Oldfield did the best possible job recreating all the synth and things he used in his studio version.
superb!! were can i get this concert does any one know ive tried ebay and amazon. love oldfield. by the way maggie reilly is one of the finest singers on this planet.
Yes, I saw that tour, too. The show in Ulm. Intimate hall. Excellent sound quality, no equipment problems. Blew us all away, especially since all I knew up to that time was Tublar Bells from the radio. Five Miles Out is still a favorite "album" of mine. And Maggie Reilly will always rock!!!!!
SHE CAN SING MAN, she´s one of the best voices ever. The only thing is the mic, it has some special effect or whatever I don´t understand. Both singers actualy. However, u can´ expect much from a live version of five miles out.
Maggie Reilly has a best ever voice on the world!

That's what happens playing a song live, when you've spent months recording
the song in the studio, overdubbing, changing parts, repeating takes, etc...
IT'S IMPOSSIBLE to reproduce the song live, not even close to the beautiful studio version

Guys, OFC the studio original sounds best..!
This is a digitalized VHS tape, and it's live.. I actually think that he pulled a great show anyway.. :)
It's still indeniable that Mike's a genius.. He's a brilliant instrumentalist and also an excellent 'DJ'... xP

Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus either MkI or MkII. The same vocoder as used by Mr. Frank Welker Soundwave.

I found-out that it is indeed the Roland VP-330 Vocoder Plus MkI!!! But I still don't know which of the two Mr. Frank "Soundwave" Welker used.
