Counterfeiting requires the intent to use the bill as currency. Randie ripped it up before handing it out... (otherwise he COULD have gotten in trouble.) I learned about this when my brother was arrested for counterfeiting... The charges were latter dismissed without a trial.

He was talking about this pen which is suppose to pick up fake bills but instead just picks up the startch content in paper which makes the pen invention false. He's not printing money you fool.

That bill that Randi printed never leaves the room, never circulates in society, is never used to purchase anything nor is it exchanged against anything, it is clearly mentioned as a printed bill and is destroyed and torned in tiny peices in the few minutes that follow. Illigal means printing money in order to use it as fraud, which was not the case here.

Well if James Randi is a liar as you say he is how do you know that was not a real $20. bill that he is claiming is fake? He could have taken a real $20 bill and ripped it up and handed it to someone saying it was fake. they then throw it in the trash can. He of course might in reality be charging an extra $20 for his demonstration and consideres it a wash and if he is lucky he will be able to go to the trash can and pick out the pieces tape them together and exchange that bill for a new one.

This isn't the first time I've seen the "amazing" Randi, pull stunts like this to make money. The moneymaking scam I saw was a few years. His scam involved an audience and a black hat. In front of the audience he would create a live rabbit out of the hat. How as he making money from this? Easy. After the show he would sell the rabbit for $20 to a pet shop. He could just continue doing this money making scam, creating and selling rabbits. It was a licence to print $20 bills. Where will it end?!!

As far as I know, it's only criminal if your intention is to pass off the copy as the real thing - e.g. if it's a counterfeit consumer product like a Gucci handbag, to sell it; if it's counterfeit money, to spend it, make change from it, deposit it at a bank, etc.
Randi's "counterfeit" was a one-off for a magic trick, he explained clearly that it wasn't the real thing, and he destroyed it at the end of the performance. Not counterfeit.

There is absolutely no evidence of a federal crime here. Watch carefully. You never see the bill close up, and when Randi shows it to the audience member it never leaves his hand. His hand covers part of the front of the bill.
Randi is an expert in sleight of hand. I've seen him up close. So if he wanted to print only half a $20 and only on one side, but make it look real to the audience, he certainly has the skills to do this.

Well, that Jim calls this a crime is the stupidest part of this video however.
He used the 'bill' as an example and destroyed it at the end. It's printed on standard paper in a standard photocopier? Then it should never be confused as the real thing due to size and feel differences.

Yes their are established systems but making a 100% reproduced bill is not allowed. Even in the film and theatre graphic artist must recreate something that looks similar to a bill, but is quite obvious not a real bill when looked at. A number of years back an extremely well known company that produces obvious fakes for the entertainment industry was shut down for a period of time. If you are confident in your position then make a youtube video of yourself making copies of real money. Good luck.
