This song definitely ignited my love for the Dixie Chicks. Serious tear-jerker... especially the "he's two and she's four..." part. That just goes straight for the heart. My Husband and I split up 13 1/2 years ago, I was 5 months pregnant with our 3rd son, I played this song right before I went to the hospital to give birth to our beautiful baby, I couldn't sleep and I was so devastated by his leaving with a girlfriend. This song can still brig tears to my eyes, there are somethings that stay with you always regardless of how much time passes. I listen to this song and almost cry. My ex wife left me when i was in hospital (i also just lost my mother 2wks before) i never got to see my son for 2 months and it broke my heart each day. I walked out of hospital to try and save my marriage and when i got home the locks had been changed my bank account empty and no car. She left me when i needed her most.
@smurfu2 7yrs have gone and i am married again to an amazing beautiful stunning lady who also gave me another 2 sons. I now get to see my oldest son almost everday and life is good but when i hear this song it reminds me of those dark days. All i can say is for those who have loved and lost is "keep strong"

Maybe the dad has changed and maybe he hasnt but you need to be the bigger person and have a clean conscience. Your son will be able to make his own decisions and have memories, trust me. My mom was dating this guy and they eventually became engaged. I don't know the full story but apparently he cheated her when some girl came around. He's no longer around, and I'm glad because he wasn't fit for my mom. I find it odd because my brother was two and I was four at the time it happened, which was a year after this song came out. We listened to this song together a while ago and just started crying. Their "break-up cd" is one of my favorite albums I've ever listened to.

My Husband and I split up 13 1/2 years ago, I was 5 months pregnant with our 3rd son, I played this song right before I went to the hospital to give birth to our beautiful baby, I couldn't sleep and I was so devastated by his leaving with a girlfriend. This song can still brig tears to my eyes, there are somethings that stay with you always regardless of how much time passes. I look at my ex now and still feel that love and also the pain that his betrayal left behind.

when my parents were together all i can remember is screaming and fighting. My dad use to hit my mom and cheat on her all the time, and my mom tried to stick it out for me and my brother...when the got a divorce i was 13 and my brother was 7, and we didnt want it to happen but sometimes things work out for the best. When my sister was 8 I was 5 and my brother was just born, my dad did so many horrible things to my mom like having an affair, pushing her down wooden steps to break her arms, and threw a lot of her stuff away. My dad is an alcholic so that's probably why. He still hurts my mom even though he and my mom are both in a relationship. I love my mom so much and am amazed of how she had to deal with it. I listen to this song and almost cry. My ex wife left me when i was in hospital (i also just lost my mother 2wks before) i never got to see my son for 2 months and it broke my heart each day. I walked out of hospital to try and save my marriage and when i got home the locks had been changed my bank account empty and no car. She left me when i needed her most.

My parents split when I was 7 and things were really difficult for a long time. There were alot of hard feelings and I felt like I was being pulled it 2 directions. Now I am very close to both my parents and I try to have a better role model for my daughter. I have been a single mom since my daughter was born. This song makes me cry every time. The love of my life left me for another woman when I was pregnant with our son. Our son is a year now and his girlfriend is pregnant and due in September. He only saw our son once when he was 2 weeks old. Now he claims he wants to be in his life but I know he will leave again after she gives birth. @Ky4giraffe The only advice I can give you is to give him the opportunity to see your son. Maybe the dad has changed and maybe he hasnt but you need to be the bigger person and have a clean conscience. Your son will be able to make his own decisions and have memories, trust me. I went through the same thing and my daughter made her own decision about her dad and I was there to pick her up and let her know that I would always be there no matter what.

i was with a man for 7 years and he hide his cheating very well he worked out of town for his job and then one day he called from work and said this will hurt me more than it will hurt you i need you to pack and be out of the house by the time i get home Friday from out of town it was later that i found out he had been seeing a woman for 7 months he is now married to her and has a child with her

@sclaurens im sorry your not with your children. try if anyway to get close to them on the phone mail or emails but they need you, your their mother. its not fair he got to keep your children. i thank god i have my two girls and they are adjusting well to our new life. take care

Hard to keep in touch with them anymore. I work/live in another country and they are in the states.
They were honor role students in a private school and their mom let them both quit school.
They will have a hard life.
