Actually, it was the team and the coach that decided to make Crosby captain. He felt he was too young to take on the responsibility, but that's who they wanted leading them. Crosby was only out for 5 games this season (he missed significantly more time last year). And again, it's the media and bandwagon fans (on both sides) that constantly compare Crosby and Ovie. I think all 3 are superb players. They all have different strengths and weaknesses, but are a joy to watch play.

08-09 stats Crosby: G:33 A:70 PTS:103 +\-:3 Backstrom G:22 A:66 PTS:88 +\-:16 the only major difference i see is that Crosby likes to camp out in front of the net and get re-bound goals, Backstrom is the set up man on the PP, and rarely ever shoots the puck. Backstrom only took 174SOG Crosby took 238, so its pretty easy to tell who would have more goals, Assists wise they are pretty much even, and +\- Backstrom is clearly better.

As a Pens fan though, I'm glad we do have him on the team, but recognize that it takes a complete team effort to win a Cup.
