freshprince004 Maoris are not part of the hawaiian islands at all. Maoris come from New Zealand which is way down in the lower south pacific. Hawaii is right up in the north pacific thousands of miles away. But there are many similarities between Hawaiians and Maoris. I'm sure they share common ancestors if you go back far enough. They share many of the same legends and stories e.g. Maui.

Man there are some incorrect comments on this topic. I'm from New Zealand like many on this thread. Maori are polynesian. Just like Cook islanders are polynesian, Tahitians are polynesian, Hawaiians, Samoans and Tongans. All polynesians. Dont confuse the term polynesian with pacific islander. In NZ sometimes we differentiate between maoris and pacific islanders by calling maoris "maori" but pacific islanders "polynesian" which actually is incorrect as they are polynesian. NZ is part of Polynesia
