  • I like how Nick uses his voice as an instrument.. Sort of like they wrote the song for the oboe (English horn) and then Nick sings it...

This song fits in with the Velvet Underground... Very popular with a particular fan base of the most discriminating sort!

Why does all this music from 30 years ago sound so great in retrospect? I guess because over the years, the best of it comes to the forefront.

  • One of the sweetest, most sincere songs ever. Lovely!

  • This is one excellent video! I enjoyed it so much. I never heard this song before. It's perfect. Beautiful pictures of lovely Edie. I love the ending when she waves goodbye on the scooter. Extremey cute & charming. This vid could not be any better.

  • This is one of the best songs about Edie Sedgwick. And she really was the girl in a million. She may have been strange and aloof, but at least she was authentic, true to herself. And from what I heard, very kind, but also very eccentric. She was her own creation and her own demise. How can someone like her, who had the world at her feet - she had it all: beauty, talent, money, connections, time - ruin her life so completely? It's sad what drugs and the wrong kind of "friends" can do...

  • If you listen to the early recordings of her voice from around 1965 or early 1966, she is sprightly, quick and alive. In the last ones, from only five years later, she has a bad slur, is slow and probably brain damaged.

And that's heartbreaking. She threw her young life away, killed her soul with drugs. She could have been a big star in Hollywood, and she really was the girl in a million. She was unique, and the echo of her powerful soul echoes even today.

  • This song fits Edie perfectly. She was like one of those cactus flowers that bloom for a very short while. She was a butterfly, fluttering helplessly in the night.

I think in a sense, emotionally, she never grew up, she was always a lost little child. She lived for the moment, probably as a result of her abusive parents and the death of her brothers, and the effects of amphetamine, heroin, LSD and barbiturates.

  • Some pictures are not her. Is amazing how things has happened so many times before and are covered with dust in the oblivion.

  • beautiful... 0:28

  • Stylish and elfin and adorable, and wasted by chemicals.

    Stick to mother nature.

  • Can you tell me what Dream Academy album this song is from?

  • It was the B side to the Love Parade single but thats not available anymore

  • About 15 yrs ago, I went to a friends house year ago and they had the Love parade 7 inch in a jukebox, and I played girl in a million over and over again. I've been looking for this song ever since.

  • Beautiful song.....so fitting for poor Edie....she was such a darling girl....so sad..

  • And the Last Picture by the stop sign on the scooter isn't Edie either, lol it's okay

  • It's very Lovely !

    Still a delightful video !

  • classic

  • Thank u!

  • stunning and very touching song and montage.

  • Who sings this?Edie was amazing - sweet sadness.

  • Great video!

I'm trying to locate this song but can't seem to find it in any of "Dream Academy's" albums-where can I find it?

    P.S. I love Edie too:)

  • thank you, the song "Girl in a Million" was relased only as a b-side of their 7" single "Love Parade"

  • Some photos are Chloe Sevigny as Edie

  • 00.36 is not Edie. 01.12, 01.41, 01.55, 03.40 neither. I know this song was made for her, there is other one from "the cult" that was made for her too, and Dylan dedicated "blonde on blonde" album to her too. Like the video, is nice done. Love Edie.

  • Very GOOD

  • ohh she is so beautiful... I love her clothes =D

  • song ıs great...who ıs the singer?

  • thank you, the singer is Nick Laird Clowes

  • It was nice, but I wish there weren't so many pictures of Edie look-a-likes along with it. The song's very beautiful though.

  • thank you for your comment, i like the music and admit I probably did not pay enough attention to the photos - sorry!

  • yeah.. ditch the wanna-bes that dog her trail... but this song is so amazing. I wish all the Dream Academy catalouge would become available somewhere on disc.. did you get this off the vinyl 45??? A+
