While the Titanic is not sci-fi, and it's a retelling of a true story. The only similarities between the two is that they are both epics.

When I heard that James Cameron spent 10 yrs on it, that disturbed me... but I understand the proces of making a film takes alot of time and money, but still.. This piece is amazing. The random stabs of cymbals to highlight the unpredictabilty of the ship's sinking. That light snare drum sometimes heard that represents the wireless, 1:29 the main tune in a very minor scale, portraying the Titanic as still beautiful and majestic, but she is losing her battle to stay afloat. 3:24 is a lamenting reality that the ship is doomed. 4:32 the most demented part, the ship falls. 5:29 back to the main theme, Titanic is fighting her last battle. 6:00 Angels watch.

It's interesting how there are similarities between this piece and the soundtrack from Avatar. Obviously as they are both by James Horner they will have the same sort of characteristics, but Titanic and Avatar were completely different movies and yet the soundtrack fits perfectly into both.
