Personally, the guy was a great athlete and very entertaining. He was what boxing needs more of. More of a risk taker and a guy who goes for it more than these sissy safety first, boring fighters who can't wait for the score cards.
To all you haters, I am American, and I say screw you and all of today's boring feathers. He could have ducked Barerra and had a great global career and been even more of a legend like.....Floyd.
To Naseem: You were lookin like a fool with your hands on the ground! (Not a Hamed insult I meant to bring up the point that he keeps his hands low while fighting)
@r0llskyay0 shame if you ever got in a ring with him you wud be put in a coma. regardless of how much bigger you probably are. but id love to see you get knocked out by him. id put it on youtube under the name pussy gets battered. keep you ignorant comments to yourself.
he was actualy leaning back and still throwing shots, he was a cocky git but he had amazing reflexes and power, easiest the hardest puncher of his day
lol WHEN U SAY DETROYED U MEAN THE REF STOPPED THE GAME !! berrera WON BY DECISION YEE BUT HOW MANY TIMES HE LOST !!! THE PRINCE NEVERR NEVERRR NEVERRR GOT KNOUCK OUT !!! that wut u CALL 3EZATE NAFS !! go traslate it
Hamed was a SENSATIONAL fighter unfortunately his arrogance made him little friends, but more costly it prevented him from fulfilling his potential, yes I know he is the second longest reigning Featherweight champion in history & the greatest Featherweight puncher but his loss to Barrera (particularly the manner of it) left an impression he wasn't as good as he thought he was. The media and boxing aficionado have jumped on the bandwagon claiming Hamed isn't a legend. But what a fighter!
To be fair to Naz there was no-one around who could challenge him in his prime. Barrera was nowhere after he got KO'd by Jones and that left Kevin Kelley. After Kelley it had to wait ANOTHER 3 years and by then he had more than established himself as a figher of the highest class. Barry McGuigan called him "an exceptional fighter... one of the best in the past 34 years (since 1967)".
But it was an empathic defeat. One that highlighted Hamed's inferior boxing skills and his over-zealous desire to counter it with risk-taking offense. That's how Barrera was able to hit him and encircle him with ease 'cause Hamed was being one-dimensional, he wasn't using his head but rather his heart. That's how fighters get beat. Similar to Hatton v Mayweather. Only diff is Hamed had a MUCH better chin. He had more KO's in world title fights than Tyson. A remarkable fighter who'll be missed.
i think taht said lawal fight had gone to his head a bit cuz he fought the first round like an idiot. in the second he used his jab a lot and found the opening

what a stupid comment below naz the gretest boxer ever hahahah clearly a person who knows nothing about boxing he was nowhere near the greatest boxer ever naz aint even the top 5 greatest british fighter
He makes my top 10 greatest British fighters, though. The showmanship is a consideration but only after considering power, speed, and agility. He had loads of those, lads! Easily a top 10 British pound 4 pound.
So who would be your top 5? If you're talking about success and records then Nas is way out of the top 5 brits, but as far as fighting form when in their peak pound pound goes, Nas was among the very top.
are you joking were is Jimmy Wilde the greatest puncher ever from britian 99ko"s & only 7st, voted by Ring magazine the 3rd hardest puncher of all time, & greatest flyweight ever, "the ghost with the hammer in his hand" is it because he is welsh!
if you understand boxing, you wil know Naz was not a good boxer. he only fought shit opponents untl the end and then he couldnt come back - but he was great entertainment and a showman.. also a dickhead but stil I miss him
Great fighter, but his lack of focus screwed up his career. And his style could only keep him up for so long. It depends on power, sort of like Tyson. Once the power is gone, if you don't have the boxing skill of someone like Hopkins, Mayweather or (even though I didn't like him) Lenux Lewis, you're done.
Barrerra was clearly a better fighter than Naz. That fight was the best proof of the statement "Styles win fights". He only lost once because he never faught again.
he fought once after the defeat and the crowd were booing him cos he kept his hands up and didnt knock the guy out, funny how ppl turn on fighters when they arent doing what ppl want to see. if u aske me those ppl that boo arent boxing fans thay just ppl who want to see a bit of action and say 'i was there'
naz fought noads of world class fighters, u ppl make me sick with ur bullshit comments. u dont know whit, when naz fought barerra he wsa on the slide. when naz was in his prime he fought everybody and beat everybody including top mexican an american fighters, naz was a legend
dunno bout tht but all i cn say is tht his technique was pathetic,he was jumping in for punches ithout thinking and ended up getting smacked each time
Why did the ref hold him down? That was weak. Theatrics by the ref outdid the theatrics by Naseem in this one. I know I'll hear blah blah blah he was on his way to losing anyway but god he didn't get a chance. The ref suffocated him after that second knockdown.
You at least see if the guy can get up on his own, then issue a few questions to see if his brain is still there and look at his eyes to see if there's life. You don't physically hold him down and say fight over. What we both saw was basically the same thing (Alicea was in no man's land), but you go through with the procedure anyways. Otherwise any ref can hold any fighter down and call it a TKO. That's why everyone thinks the sport is crooked and MMA is getting a foothold over boxing.
I see your point. To be fair the ref saved him from being knocked down again who knows the bloke could of ended up in a bad way. For me there was definetely no way back though.
He was carried into the ring by "slaves" on a palanquin. And then there were women who threw flower pedals in front of him as he walked the rest of the way to the ring. It was awesome. He also left the ring being carried by it as well.
One of the greatest ever. I'm a loyal fan and I'm American.
