Dominique Wilkins - Beyond The Glory part 1 of 4

i spent from 1986-1990 attending every hawk home game and i've never seen a player with nique's skill set. a simple win over boston would've put him in the same room with bird, magic and m.j. but atlanta never gave him a true #2 man to help him out.

nique deserves more respect from the national pundits. the "top 50" list should be revised cause nique is top 25.

After Doctor J retired I made Dominique my favorite player. The Hawks had decent teams but he never had that 2nd guy to help put them over the top. When they traded him to the Clippers for Danny Manning I was so upset, especially after the game he had against Seattle in his last game with Atlanta. I still to this day think that was totally disrespectful. Then when he didn't male Top 50, I didn't even know what to think. Underrated player at best

I was pissed when they didn't include Wilkins in the 50 greatest players and they included a young Shaq at the time, Dom will be the best slam dunker of all time who originated the slam dunk!

Announcer years back recalled seeing Doc at shoot around jump from a standstill behind the basket outta bounds & dunk the ball, asked Jordan to do it & many others thru the years & NO ONE can come near it.

Dominique was so much more than just dunks. He was an athletic freak and an assassin from the perimeter. People know him mainly for the highlight reel dunks (there are plenty), but he really did have a complete offensive arsenal. He should have been top 50 greatest.

That Manning trade marked the last time that the Hawks were relevent in the NBA world. At the time, they had the best record in the NBA, then they got bounced early from the playoffs. That trade ruined my eighth grade year.

If one looked up the term 'franchise killer', it would be the Nique for Manning trade. Folks here in Atlanta still haven't forgiven Kasten and Babcock for that hideous move. You trade your aging superstar to a contender when the team is mediocre (Ray Borque to the Avalanche), NOT WHEN YOU HAVE THE BEST RECORD IN THE NBA.

Sure, the Hawks made the playoffs afterwards but haven't been worth mentioning since.

Dominique is one of the greatest players in NBA history..And he is THE greatest player in Atlanta Hawks History, and I believe the Hawks have been "cursed" since they made one of the dumbest trades in NBA history, trading Dominique for Danny Manning...The Hawks were poised for a championship that year, and the management BLEW it!!

As I said before, tons of folks here in Atlanta still haven't attended a Hawks home game since the Nique for Manning deal, which explains the empty seats unless Kobe or Labron shows up. They had the best record in the NBA and no Bird, Magic, Isiah, or MJ to deal with.

They gave the man no one to play with when the Celtics, Pistons, and Bulls were loaded, only to trade him when they were no longer factors.
