I've been there with many minutes trying until i went to my sewing kit and got the right tool. Next time go to the fabric store and buy a stitch cutter..it's smooth on the side and extremely sharp inside, no chance of hurting as much if at all it's a very small seamstresses tool uses only one hand and works in less than a few seconds to cut each stitch.
