i have a 65 barracuda ima put a 360 small block in it but i cant find a rear end that will stand alot of power.the stock one will just get eatin up...
Do you have OTHER video for the real interior work... perhaps brand new Legendary seats, Dynamat instalation, etc..etc..???
We have a 1964 Barracuda 273, it's pretty much the same like yours except ours is the first year when it came out. PLEASE share your restoration video..
@831maverick >> I do not have video of the process, but I do have pics on a Kodak account, like photobucket, but Kodak's version... if you email me at cdscreener@comcast.net I can send you the link to the gallery... Thanks ! Chuck
They are Cragar SS. It is the stock 5 x 4 small bolt pattern. I got them from Newstalgia, with the BFG rubber already on them, 14 x 7's all around. THANKS !
Yeah, I knew how stupid that sounded as soon as I said it, but hey the cameras rolling, so I went with it. That was pretty dumb. I meant to say that I converted it from points to electronic ignition, but instead "pointless" is what came out... Nice Catch !
I use hydraulic lifters and cam, almost bottom them out to prevent pump-up and adjustments, use the adjustable rockers. Nice power trick for different ratio. Can change distributor springs, weights and also timing advance rates to improve. Maybe even a different control box, they are not all alike.
Just trying to help fellow cuda owners, have almost 20 years with my cuda, also a mechanic for many years.
I know you wanted that 4-bbl, who doesn't, but now you got huge ports running into tiny head ports, still the tiny chambers and valves, that exhaust hurts you more than helps for the smaller cubic inch engines, besides the 273 bottleneck drivers side exhaust defeats any gains. Advance the timing, started too easy, heard flat spot and hesitation, Longer cranks to start and run better, use bosch platinum plugs. This 273 should rev like a motorcycle in the 8,000 rpm range and crisp.
Currently I run a 1966 273 hi-po heavily modded. I had around 4 318's and 3 360's in it over the years, even got a special 1977 police 318 with 360 heads, intake, rods, chopped and lightened 340 forged crank on a stand. I tell you what, the 273 really suits these cars, you just can't beat the revs for the weight, anything more you just burn rubber.
Nice ride you got, it's an a-body cuda which I like. If anyone wants to talk Cuda with me or needs advice I don't mind, hit me up on msn in my profile.
My suggestion to all is to just get a 318 and use the a-999 tranny from a cordoba with trans mount and crossmember , use a driveshaft from a 4 cylinder AMC concord, trust me it all bolts in.
Aftermarket shifter like the ratchet quicksilver works. Plug the smog ports and use the stock 273 exhausts or even get the 340 ones from the next generation cuda's Washers in driver side mounts if went 360, be sure to use weighted 360 torque converter. Use the 273 water pump and pulleys. continued....
I also have had a few valiants 64 signets, 1 conv. the other 2 door hardtop both the 273 and pushbutton trans. Since 1990 I owned my current 65 barracuda original 273 2bbl, 3 speed auto with console, sport kit,all tinted glass, heavy duty suspension and tow package (then I made it 8 leafs per side with hi-arc), power brakes with 4 pistons per caliper, power steering, Yanked those floppy front seats and used 80's charger recliners. Much better. Continued...
Good to hear from you again, Jess - How's the new 360 with the "secret weapon" heads holdin up ??? As you can see I ended up staying with the 273 with a rebuild, but at least built up the cam, intake and carb - made a big difference, but it's still just a 273...Just got done running all new brake lines, hydr. hoses, cylinders, a dual MC, and booster... STOPS now - imagine that...
The 273 shown is original block, heads, and forged crank, and it did come with the 2bbl - you are correct, the LD4B intake bolt holes had to be modified, because the hole angle on the heads is different than later years. When I went to the .425 lift mechanical Isky cam, I also added the Eddie 600cfm carb.
i enjoyed the video.brings back mem. i had a 65 ply. valiant i bought in 1969 i had the commando v8 pkg. that went in the barracuda's. boy i loved it. i have a 65 val. convertible w/2 bbl i noticed you have an 4 bbl edelbrock intake and carb on your car. could you tell me what your set up is, and if the engine is a real 64/65 model yr 273? i was told the intake wldn't fit on the earlier yrs engine/the angle was wrong
me and my dad are trying to rebuild our 1965 cuda with its "O.G."273 but the car is so rusty still runs though so i figure put some sub frame conectors and rustrepair+black truck bed liner and call it good
Chuck love the space you have devoted...making me jealous. Congrats to all you have accomplished in the last 3 years! We need some music in the background other than those pesky birds enjoying spring!
