In interviews, John is always very modest about his playing but in reality he has come up with really great, ingenious and far from simple bass lines.
only my two cents...this band does not need all this stuff going on around them, especially this song, amazing song. Doesn't need all the dancers and stuff....just saying. They got talent...lots!!!
@sharinedemarchenar69 I have to agree. And they've proven it a lot since then. There are other live versions of this song, even here on youtube, that don't have near as much stuff going on around them; and they STILL rock!
Simon Le Bon is the SEXIEST and CUTIEST singer alive!!!
Love you guys... forever... Your songs inspired during all my youth and still, still, still ROCKS!!! Hope to see you this in year in BRASIL !!! LOTS OF LOVE!!!!!! xxx
No insults intended by my comments...I just really wish there was more musical togetherness today (and more groups that were positive like in the 80's/early 90's rather than many today who spew garbage and still seem to make a lot of money.)
You are so wrong...I am part of the original MTV generation. I personally leaned towards the guitar god bands (VH/JP/Rainbow/BS etc) but that video era made it possible to see the talent in groups that crossed multiple genres. I was obviously reading Creem vs your Tiger Beat.
Watch any Adam Sandler movie and listen to the music. That was the 80s. From Michael Jackson to Dead or Alive to The Cure to Styx to Triumph, then throw in some Prince or WHAM ..we loved it all.
as a side note I went to see Duran Duran during this tour in Chicago in '84 AND I went to see VH for their 1984 tour. Musical diversity was our way of life back then.
OMG this was and still is my favorite DD song. The Bass line is just to hard to explain how F***ING Amazing it is. One of the many reasons John Taylor is my favorite band member and still to this day Duran Duran is one of my very most favorite bands in the whole world.I have been a fan a true Duranie sense 1980 love you guys xoxox! And can't wait till you guys start touring this year in LA 2011...
@ScrittiSparkle, this track will be included on the 3 disc version of the album Seven And The Ragged Tiger. Album is remastered, and the live special was called As The Lights Go Down.
I love New Religion bc it showcases each member's talents to the utmost. I always wanted to go to the Arena tour, but my mother wouldn't let me. I was too young. It's all good- I saw D2 in '05. It was the best show I've ever seen. These gents age like fine wine- so sweet!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Couldn't agree with you more. Debut album brilliant, second album also excellent, third album piss poor. After that I dumped them from my music list, shame!
oh nooo seven and the ragged tiger is still very good i think.. it went down when they did the album notorious :( when they tried to sound more 'american'.. then they lost it imho.
@Gina97xls i reckon duran duran at theri creative peak was with Rio...and Duran Duran album was fucking a close second but both outstanding and timeless...without doubt, one of the greatest pop music bands in the last 30 years. I would add, duran duran are one of the brest live bands in the world presently - saw them 7 times.
I love this song it was and still is awesome took me forever to learn all the lyrics so I could sing it with him when ever I played it but I loved it I went to see them perform it at the time in 1984 it was for my 18th Bday and it was suberbly fantastico
Kylmää kyytiä mennä takaisin 80 luvulle.. Komeata vetoa.. silloin rakastin yhtä tyttöä.. Tämä tuo ja vie minut nin lähelle ja taas niin kauas hänestä...
One of their best besides Rio. Nice they kept it original. Sucks when they get lazy later in life and don't stick to the script. Uhemlastchanceonthestairwayuhem
@sassyshannen yeah. always loved the final few seconds as the song wound down and the final hissing fadeout of the synth in the live version. also the end of save a prayer on arena.
I love how he drops the tambourines 1:15. Lmao every time I see vids of this song live he does something different with the tambourines. But this has to be the best one.
This is one of my favorite songs from the "Rio" album. I remember listening to it for hours on end trying to keep up with Simon singing the lyrics. That whole album is great.
you can say what u like about bands then and now , but let me say this Duran and bands like them were the boy bands of their day, and the the difference, ?? a huge Difference they wrote played their own instruments , could tranfer that live to a stage and to get a number one single in either Uk OR the US u had to seel a huge amount of units before u broke the top ten let alone get No 1 nowadays its shite god we are the last generation of vynil my friends
@sharinedemarchenar69 I agree simpler would of been much better especially for this song let the music play and the band perform.

I'm an '80s baby. I once pulled a Pan Am Air Stewardess at a Duran Duran gig.
We then got pissed on Champers in a Mayfair bar
She had work the next morning..
I had School.
You really can't get more '80s than that!.

Question: Oh Dear God, why oh why wasnt I old enough to see DD in "84" when they performed the Arena tour??? why oh why?
Answer: Because your parents were caught up in the "Regan" propaganda of the 80's
