  • @sharinedemarchenar69 I agree simpler would of been much better especially for this song let the music play and the band perform.

  • In interviews, John is always very modest about his playing but in reality he has come up with really great, ingenious and far from simple bass lines.

  • Best concert ever!!!!!

  • Magnifica... ! come tutte le loro vecchie canzoni...

    Duraniana 72!

  • Like all things Duran Duran... KILLER BASSLINE. John Taylor is incredible.

  • wow, this song is amazing, the bass, the rythm, vocals, all, the sound of this band always was great, Duran Duran rocks !!!

  • One of my all time faves....love blasting in my car....windows down....singing at the top of my lungs!! Duran rocks!!

  • I'm an '80s baby. I once pulled a Pan Am Air Stewardess at a Duran Duran gig.

We then got pissed on Champers in a Mayfair bar

She had work the next morning..

    I had School.

You really can't get more '80s than that!.

  • Does anyone else blare this song in their car or is it just me? One of their best songs EVER!!

  • i had Duran Duran on my pencil case at school and i am a male,go figure.

  • What a great song! I was lucky enough to see these guys live twice...the 1st concert I ever went to in '82 :) Love you Simon!

  • only my two cents...this band does not need all this stuff going on around them, especially this song, amazing song. Doesn't need all the dancers and stuff....just saying. They got talent...lots!!!

  • @sharinedemarchenar69 I have to agree. And they've proven it a lot since then. There are other live versions of this song, even here on youtube, that don't have near as much stuff going on around them; and they STILL rock!

  • I SIMPLY LOVE THIS SONG AND ALL THEIR SONGS!!!

Simon Le Bon is the SEXIEST and CUTIEST singer alive!!!

Love you guys... forever... Your songs inspired during all my youth and still, still, still ROCKS!!! Hope to see you this in year in BRASIL !!! LOTS OF LOVE!!!!!! xxx

  • Rip the audio from this clip at thetunify doht cohm.

  • @AllGoodInThePNW

No insults intended by my comments...I just really wish there was more musical togetherness today (and more groups that were positive like in the 80's/early 90's rather than many today who spew garbage and still seem to make a lot of money.)

  • @AllGoodInThePNW

You are so wrong...I am part of the original MTV generation. I personally leaned towards the guitar god bands (VH/JP/Rainbow/BS etc) but that video era made it possible to see the talent in groups that crossed multiple genres. I was obviously reading Creem vs your Tiger Beat.

Watch any Adam Sandler movie and listen to the music. That was the 80s. From Michael Jackson to Dead or Alive to The Cure to Styx to Triumph, then throw in some Prince or WHAM ..we loved it all.

  • @luciob1

as a side note I went to see Duran Duran during this tour in Chicago in '84 AND I went to see VH for their 1984 tour. Musical diversity was our way of life back then.

  • OMG this was and still is my favorite DD song. The Bass line is just to hard to explain how F***ING Amazing it is. One of the many reasons John Taylor is my favorite band member and still to this day Duran Duran is one of my very most favorite bands in the whole world.I have been a fan a true Duranie sense 1980 love you guys xoxox! And can't wait till you guys start touring this year in LA 2011...

  • Nick+Andy=New religion. Nick-Andy=shit

  • great bass!!!!

  • The dancers are amazing here

  • @emeraldstream yes, they are!

  • Love this song!!!

  • I crancked up all the time at home with my onkyo home theater speakers

  • Those are some sure bouncy tambourines

  • Wonderful!

  • God I loved the 80's lol

  • Awesome video. I miss not having As The Lights Go Down. I used to have Sing Blue Silver VHS, but it got worn out. :(

  • Tune!!

  • this is the third time ive tried, to write a comment so thanksfor the info x

  • Out on DVD, March/April 2010.

  • what name will it be under please

  • @ScrittiSparkle, this track will be included on the 3 disc version of the album Seven And The Ragged Tiger. Album is remastered, and the live special was called As The Lights Go Down.

  • oh thanks for that, cant wait ! cheers very much

  • i have replied but it didnt come up,thank you anyway

  • JF! Yes! There are 3 bands that put on the greatest concerts ever, Thus: Duran Duran, David Bowie &* Oingo Boingo!

  • bloody brill vid and awesome song duran rule

  • Shit! This is an awesome video!

  • awesome stuff! gothic vibess

  • I love New Religion bc it showcases each member's talents to the utmost. I always wanted to go to the Arena tour, but my mother wouldn't let me. I was too young. It's all good- I saw D2 in '05. It was the best show I've ever seen. These gents age like fine wine- so sweet!

  • One of the best song ever ...

  • HOT DAYUM! THIS is one of the BEST concerts back in the 80's! I love you SIMON! DURAN DURAN FOREVER!

  • My absolute favorite.

  • what's this from and is it out on dvd? :)

  • It's from the video/DVD Arena, it's brought out in 1984!

  • One of the best and most influenual groups of all time!

  • this is the best concert ever, simon sounds perfect love his voice they play such great songs

  • inggih leres, suwantenipun simon, saestu sae ngriki, kula sarujuk

  • Simon has always been fine as frog hair!!!

    John too!!!!

This song was soooo far ahead of it's time...like many of their other songs!!! Does anyone out there have the original video for this song?!?

  • damn! my love for SLB has returned!

  • how can a band that made such WICKED and BRILLIANT music make such CRAP now!???

    they were huge..pff

and yesssssssssss john is fantastic on the bass here!!!

  • oh nooo seven and the ragged tiger is still very good i think.. it went down when they did the album notorious :( when they tried to sound more 'american'.. then they lost it imho.

  • they never lost it :) saw them in concert a few months ago and they very much still have it! they keep recreating and reinventing themselves.

  • @Gina97xls i reckon duran duran at theri creative peak was with Rio...and Duran Duran album was fucking a close second but both outstanding and timeless...without doubt, one of the greatest pop music bands in the last 30 years. I would add, duran duran are one of the brest live bands in the world presently - saw them 7 times.

  • I love this song it was and still is awesome took me forever to learn all the lyrics so I could sing it with him when ever I played it but I loved it I went to see them perform it at the time in 1984 it was for my 18th Bday and it was suberbly fantastico

  • John is tearing that bass up! Man, he's awesome!

  • Kylmää kyytiä mennä takaisin 80 luvulle.. Komeata vetoa.. silloin rakastin yhtä tyttöä.. Tämä tuo ja vie minut nin lähelle ja taas niin kauas hänestä...

  • MAGNIFICO

  • I'd love to sing this in a karaoke bar.

  • Anybody else getting a Matrix vibe from the video?

  • One of their best besides Rio. Nice they kept it original. Sucks when they get lazy later in life and don't stick to the script. Uhemlastchanceonthestairwayuhem

  • I hate lexicons.

  • One of Duran Duran's best songs! Damn, that bass line is just sick! Love it. John is very underappreciated as a bass player.

  • @sassyshannen yeah. always loved the final few seconds as the song wound down and the final hissing fadeout of the synth in the live version. also the end of save a prayer on arena.

  • @sassyshannen Underappreciated? You mean like now? Or 30 yrs ago???

  • @sassyshannen TOtally

  • @sassyshannen I learned to play the bass listening to John (among many others) - he was a major influence & rules!

  • My fav duran duran song and only in this concert, just the best!

  • Love this song. One of my favourite Duran songs. I think it's actually really clever, the ego/alter ego thing.

  • Great!!!

  • I love how he drops the tambourines 1:15. Lmao every time I see vids of this song live he does something different with the tambourines. But this has to be the best one.

  • Arena (Duran Duran), Live Magic (Queen), Alchemy (DIre Straits), best live shows ever.

  • agree 100 % wiht you

  • agree 100 % with you [2]

don't know of you'll agree....but I would add Serious Live (Phil Collins)

  • unbelievable........!!!

  • Arena!

  • great concert, one of my very favorites bands.

  • After seeing them in concert in April, all I can say is that they get better with age. That was an awesome show. Long live DD!

  • but this song is from the rio album right? but the concert is in the reflex song, but the reflex is from other album-??

    i dont get it.....

  • It's simple; the song is from Rio and it's been performed live in the Arena tour '84, from which this video is taken from

  • BRILLIANT, awesome, love it!!!!!!!!! brings back so many teen memories! Haven't forgotten any of the lyrics, Thank you xxx

  • its fun keeping up with the lyrics:

  • This is one of my favorite songs from the "Rio" album. I remember listening to it for hours on end trying to keep up with Simon singing the lyrics. That whole album is great.

  • Greeeeeeeaaaattttttttt...!!!!

  • you can say what u like about bands then and now , but let me say this Duran and bands like them were the boy bands of their day, and the the difference, ?? a huge Difference they wrote played their own instruments , could tranfer that live to a stage and to get a number one single in either Uk OR the US u had to seel a huge amount of units before u broke the top ten let alone get No 1 nowadays its shite god we are the last generation of vynil my friends

  • F'ing hell I remember this...1984...has it been that long?

  • nice nice nice

  • great song, the DD dark side, great bass line as usual and cryptic non-sense (but only apparently) lyrics.

excerpt from "as the lights go down", greatest DD live performance ever.

now i'm 38yrs old, still love them as 20 yrs (and counting) ago.

    thanks for posting.

  • cubaz, I am 39yrs old now and I feel completely the same. Although I like d'n'b and stuff like that nowadays I will always love this tune...cheers
