  • If Colm Wilkinson could only sing at my funeral!!

  • Just great, brought a tear to my eye.

  • can't think of anything more appropriate to send him off with. God bless, Teddy.

  • I have seen every movie about the Kennedy family and read every book about them, too (well, the gossipy, interesting ones). However, this song and video says it all. A Kennedy funeral song is worth a thousand words. Happy Saint Patrick's Day, Teddy. Someday, you'll have to let me know the real story of St. Patrick and the snakes. I imagine St. Patrick as a medieval Steve "Crocodile Hunter" Irwin.

  • He was a great man and is missed by many including his state will miss him dearly. I grew up knowing about the Kennedy's even seen them marching in a Labor Day Parade once in Marlboro, Massachusetts they were well loved by my family and friends families. We Love you Kennedy's

  • We are oroud of you!

  • that went 3 sec before clicked it off.. it should have been 99 bottles of beer on the wall 99

  • oh my...this song was also played at my friend's brother's funeral...and at their grandma's funeral i believe...bittersweet

  • That's John McDermott not McCormack

  • @John0thon yes no one sang for her in a bullshit public memorial

  • the irish are the greatest of people. thank you for this

  • @88conservative We are no greater then any other people, but we are second to none.

  • Slán go fóill mo chara!

  • I love it that they played this at Teddy Kennedy's Memorial Service!!

  • Excellent. There is only one word.

  • we must make sure his legacy lives on. It is most fitting that after his death from cancer we should work to pass a healthcare bill to help all of us suffering from illness and injury get the care and the peace of mind they deserve. Yes a great Irish man and a great American

  • our heritage which we are so proud

  • Beautiful stuff.....

  • Perfect way to close it out.....Teddy's Irish eyes would have been smiling.

Also,John McCormick is my fav Irish Tenor.

Thanks very much for all the wonderful videos here.

    .

  • What a send off... i could only imagine such a celebration of my life...

  • my great great grandfather wrote this song no lie my father cryed when he heard this my great great grandfather wrote this for my grandmother that just past way sadly but my grandmother used to sing this to me when ever i felt sad and god bless kennedy my the irish land over take you with joy in hevan

  • Beautiful! and the perfect song to send "Teddy" off with. God Bless the Kennedy family.

    Jeanne

  • @Jeannenyc57 This is such a great song for all the Irish Families, we had are own wake 2night

    losin my brother.

  • @stoogieb4me I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your brother. MY condolences go out to you & your family.

  • @Jeannenyc57 A wonderful thing is a tenor, tenors are wonderful things...and Colm Wilkinson is the ONLY one who can reach the notes he achieved in this video. He must have channeled Teddy AND St. Patrick himself.

  • Simon Cowell's limey eyes are smiling at Colm Wilkinson's Irish tenor.

  • Oh for God's sake... let it go!!! He was a flawed human being, that he admitted. There is not a man or woman on this earth that hasn't made a mistake, you included. But just take a look at what he has done, check it out, he is directly responsible for many bills that make life better for a great many americans, you included. He said himself, Atonement never ends and he worked until his dying day. Move on, let it be, it is now between Ted Kennedy and his God.

  • It would be wonderful if some of the slimy trolls that spend time composing posts that do nothing but try to tear down a dead man and his family would get a life and do something that might actually benefit their society. Oh but wait, that might be too difficult for them, given their obvious limitations. I guess that might be too much to expect.

  • "Let he who is without sin, cast the first stone."

    John 8:7

I believe in that verse with all my heart. Ted Kennedy was no saint, but in this day and age, who is? He made mistakes, but just like any man, does he not deserve to be forgiven? A man can only do the best that he can. He has died, can he not have peace? Not even now? Who are you to judge his life? Who are you to scrutinize the decisions he's made? Let him rest in peace, he at least deserves that.

  • class!!!

    God bless the Kennedy family

    great to be Irish

  • Beautiful. I'm actually sitting here crying. What a classic way to send off a fine old Irishman--who was also a great American patriot. Love that Mrs. Kennedy is singing with the crowd.

  • Great finale to a wonderful memorial. Some lovely moments after the singing ended. At the 8:00 mark, Ed Schlossberg (front row, lots of white hair) leans into Caroline on his left (beige jacket), kisses the right side of her head, and says something tenderly to her. At the 9:00 mark, Tatiana Schlossberg puts her arms around her mother and hugs her. Lovely family. Jack and Jackie would have been so proud of them all.

  • No nation on this earth gives a better send-off than the Irish and this proves the point

  • How wonderful to see this group of people of different races and religions sing this very Irish song so gustily; too bad Teddy couldn't be leading. My only problem with the entire service was that the keyboardist MADE A SOLO OF every intro and ending! (No problem with this particular ending, however, because it ended the service on an upbeat note.)

  • i was born and raised in ireland ,now living in the usa, let's not forget what this man has done for everyone,he was'nt perfect ,then none of us are,but he was a champion for the people in need ,he carried his own cross in life ,as we all know RIP ted god bless you .

  • I'm both Irish and a strict Catholic. I don't necessary agree with everything the Pope or the Church says (like most Catholics I think), but I don't believe anyone should push their beliefs on anyone else. Debate and discussion is healthy as long as we respect that not everyone should have the same beliefs as ourselves.

  • My dad was born & raised as a young child in the KENNEDY neighborhood in Boston Mass....& when I heard it @

    TED KENNEDYS memorial service

" when I Irish eyes are smiling" sung live"

it just made me think of HOME of my dads. It was a heart touching moment

    @ 4:45 ! mayGodBless the entire KENNEDYS now & 4ever, Amen....

  • I was raised Irish Catholic. My father being an O'Shaughnessy and my mother an O'Keefe. My parents both died when I was a young child and the Catholic faith saw me through the loss. But as I grew older I saw how bigoted and narrow minded some Catholics can be including those now criticizing Ted Kennedy for not being Catholic enough since he was pro choice. You are all hypocrites. And several of the comments above are vile and uncalled for. Grow up.

  • Thank you.

  • By the way, That's John McDermott NOT John McCormick !

  • Um........the guy who starts the song isn't either one of the tenors they mention. His name is Samuel Moscoso, a local tenor/performer here in Boston. He has a beautiful voice and also plays the piano. I wonder why they didn't credit him.

  • A great finish to a moving service (except for those wingnut hacks McCain and Hatch - they should have been given the hook).

  • I do not agree with abortion either friend, but Teddy did stand up for the small people like you and me and his brother JFK was our last real president. Bobby would have been president as well if he had not been killed.

  • I am an Irish Catholic. I honor the memory of this great man and family.

Read up about the bigotry and hatred faced by the Irish Immigrants, my ancestors were sheepherders and that is an especially ugly chapter of history.

The Irish that I know would never trash someone's funeral. You are obviously not Irish.

  • Once again, you comments are inappropriate in this situation and if you don't realize that, then YOU are what is wrong with the whole debate. Shame on you.

  • What is worse that a youtube troll?

A youtube troll that trolls someone's funeral.

  • Why are calling a well respected man and politicain a drunk a donkey ect. Have you got an issue with Irish ppl, Im Irish and I have seen this kind of jealousy before. ALas as they say let he who has not sinned cast the 1st stone. What have you ever done???

  • No I am a well educated, confident able bodied handsome 2nd Generation American, did I leave out modest too. Anyway, you strike me as one of those people our forefathers fled, bigoted, unhappy insecure and biologically flawed. I already have a picture of you in my head probably angry, quiet unusual to look at and you consider culture a trip to Mac D's or a visit to the great mall.Basically we do not need or really care what you think. Go Irish.

  • Um interesting your favorite noun is Donkey, I wonder did you have an identity crisis issue with a Donkey before. You make me smile at your palpable bigotry it simmers :), assumptions about cheating and so. You basically self defeated any rational into your arguement /irrational comments. Kiss me Im Irish!

  • Southpore1 your parents must have be very proud of you. You seem very sophisticated and some what intellectual with the robust arguements and comments..ahem example Donkey, Donkey and oh yes Donkey.A compliment for my good self well okay then, the ladies love me, bows head and blushes.

  • Southpore1, well you are perfect, thats why. We all make mistakes, one way or another we pay for them, here or after! So I will not Judge I choose to praise!

  • 3 independent investigations, by 3 separate investigation units, found that Sen. Kennedy's only crime, was le3aving the crime scene. Tire marks proved that he did in fact lose control of his vehicle, on what was already a very bad weather night.

He lost control, and the car went over the bridge. He jumped in after her, which lie detectors test proved, was accurate. He exhausted his self trying to get to her, but couldn't, because the water was very cold.

  • Yes, he did leave teh secene of an accident! Hard to say what most of us would od in that situation. And I'm not a Democratic slappy, I just am a truth slappy. Sir, forgive me, but I'm going to make a generalization about you. I'm certain you were a great fan of Reagan, would that be correct?

I'm certain you're republican, and don't get me started about crimes done against others from that party. Christian Right MY ASS! Christ called us to love the poor, Republicans could care less.

  • Proud that it is an Irish ass! lol. Sothpore1 no we would not, we would have the same rites, yes if we have money we can sway the odds, but hey thats our Capitist society, nothing new, same as in Roman times. The end justifies the means.

  • where is the Boston Community Chorus version of "Just a Closer the highlight of the whole service.

  • A great Irishman...

    The dream will never die!

  • I am a proud Irishman and proud of the Kennedy name - God Bless and keep you Ted Kennedy!

  • Ted a wonderful man to have helped Millions I hope many can fallow your example a man who made amends to god & the girls family & helped others. You know a bully who's mean to others affects someone there whole life making a person drink themselves to death commit suicide even shoot up a school! commented mean to a teens clip on you tube? you see people saying Ted's crash makes him bad when he helped so many & made amends are people who hold guilt in there lives & have not made amends god bless!

  • too bad some dont remember anything bu the negative. his story was surely one of redemtion

  • I agree with you.

  • Stay Classy

and IF you believe in Hell, then you must also profess to be a Christian

I don't recall hate thy neighbor in cathechism class when I grew up Irish Catholic American Democrat in NJ

You have a lot of anger in you

  • How apropos. I'm Greek-American, not Irish- American, but for some reason this charming song always makes me smile. It was a wonderful selection after a beautiful memorial.

  • Beautiful, just a beautiful service for a great man
