Dorsey, Martin and Frye are gone on to be with the Lord as well as some of the other members of the group. Does anyone know if Romance Watson is still alive?
He's still alive. I met him last night at Eugene Smith's wake, and he looks and sounds the same as he did in this video. He doesn't look like he's 80 at all.
Romance Watson, Eugene Smith, Norsalus McKissick, Robert Anderson, James Lawrence, Willie Webb with the help of Dr. Thomas A.Dorsey, Roberta Martin and Theodore Frye organized the Martin-Frye Quartet, a youth group in the 1933. Martin renamed the group the Roberta Martin Singers in 1936 and added Bessie Folk and Delois Barrett Campbell to the group in the 1940s.
This man is so incredible I cannot find the words to describe the way he always touches my heart when he sings. What a talent. I wish Bill had used him a lot more in his video's.
Absolutely awesome! Get on board people, Zion is the Ark of safety in this end time. "what then shall we answer the messagers of the nation.... That God hath founded Zion and the poor of His people shall trust in it!" Not only are we safe there but all our needs are met in Him. These are the songs that will usher us on board. How beautiful they are!
Great traditional gospel singing from this former member of The Roberta Martin Singers of Chicago. He gives Reverend Claude Jeter a good run on falsetto. Sensational performance even if the chorus doesn't know beans about soul.
You commented: "even if the chorus doesn't know beans about soul". Christ says in Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

At the stern of the ship stood the captain
I could hear as he called out my name
Get on board its the ole ship of Zion
It will never pass this way again
Buckeyecat2002 2 years ago
Its hull was bent and battered
From the storms of life I could see
Waves were rough but that ole ship kept sailing
Is that the ole ship of Zion I see.

THAT OLD SHIP OF ZION
I was standing on the banks of the river
Looking out over lifes troubled sea
When I saw that ole ship that was sailing
Is that the ole ship of Zion I see.
