shhhh.... really cool! the most impressiv manadala video on the net! is it pssible to split the zones, that you can fire some ableton live sound on one zone and play your own sounds on another zone?
@5059markus Yes even though there are 128 MIDI Controller Position zones by way of continuous controller values you can still send out particular MIDI notes from the bigger Note zones. This video has the pad set to one big Note zone with the 128 Controller zones being used to open and close a filter in relation to the exact strike position from center to edge.
@vault9991 I think its about $349 on mandaladrumstore (DOT) com ... Out of stock atm though... I'm getting one of these, it's pretty cheap, it's only like the price of a good cymbal..
no it's not the harder hits that change the sound....it's actually where you hit it that changes the sound. the center is a closed filter and the filter opens up more as you hit toward the edge. position sensitivity.
just get the v.2 USB version. you can buy those in doubles for 50USD less than buying each individual one. i bet if you called up the synesthesia corp and told them you want to buy 5 of them they'd knock off a bit of the price. they made a lot of business deals in the last couple years but they're still down to earth folks. reckon it'd cost no more than 1600 for 5 pads. but i honestly think that's excessive. you only need like 3, you can do so much with them haha
There going to stop making these forever! So if you want one get it now! Only $999.99. By the the time you buy a USB model A fast computer, and fire wire You just as well buy the V.1
you can dial it up in the mandala v2.0 virtual brain by: making it 1 zone, synth bass 2 (or one of the synth lead instruments), bandpass biquad filter with frequency controlled by strike position. also, turn on scales for the zone and make it alternate up and down one octave each strike. make the root note pretty low.
Im in to dance music and would like to produce songs, as a bit of fun, but hopefully one day make my songs heard at the clubs. to the people that own this mandala drum, could it work with dance music and could a non-drummer like myself use it well. thanks
you don't need to know anything about drums. that's one of the best parts. you can use your hands and fingers on the pad with very consistent results as long as you put a liiittle bit extra pressure.
i'd say it's four hundred bucks VERY well spent if you have a computer that can handle the software. (not that it requires a whole lot)
the mandala has 128 zones underneath its surface. it's a patented membrane switch and it has over 40 times higher resolution than any other edrum in the world. that's why danny c uses them!
I just bought version 2.0 and I absolutely love it. Was wondering if anyone knew how to setup this particular preset - filter synth - It's not listed as one of the 2.0 presets and i would love to play with it. Please let me know if any of you figure it out.
I bet these will take off in the future and be incorporated in some type of new music genre, some sort of live techno percussive thing. I'd start the revolution except I don't have enough money.
Wow That so sweet. But damn that $999 just for the pad and brain. That would be really cool to have that on my kit i dont think i would spend that much money for something like that.
im thinking about getting one of these. my only question is what do YOU run this through and how do you do it? besides headphones what are the options?
i run the audio out L and R from the Mandala Brain into 2 channels on my mix board and then the sound comes out of my 2 PA speakers. the cables to do that are standard instrument cables, like for a guitar. i've also used it through the vdrum speaker system and that sounds really good too. it's 2 small speakers and a subwoofer on the floor.
I've had one for a year and I still like it at least as much as when I got it. I play it even more now. You could plug it into your home stereo if you want. I like blasting it through the PA where my kit is set up.
The stand is separate. It's a PDP boom cymbal stand CB800 and the extension arm for the Brain is a Gibraltar SC-ECLAC. The L-rod for mounting the pad is a 9.5mm Gibraltar SCLRS1. I bought them in a store for about $60 all together.
if you want to use a single amp you can. it sounds great in stereo too, so a couple amps or running L and R through a mixboard takes full advantage of all its features.

you should make an entire drum set of these, put each one on a different preset, and just play it like a regular drum set...
yummycars 2 years ago
some electric drum kits have presets like that where you can mess around with the sound of each one.
MikeyRGuitar 2 years ago
that would take A LOT of money to make an entire drum set of these
drhbettathanu 2 years ago 3
