The solo very much sounds like Shankle on The Absolute Power. He is clearly the worst of the three guitarists they've had.

Karl has a very special kind of sound which probably everyone doesn't like, but he plays with great feeling. Shankle may play more notes per second, but Karl knows how to choose his notes ten times better. Speed isn't everything, though Karl has plenty of that too.

Yes he hit the high notes more powerfull in the 80ies. But here in this video he sounds not so well. he doesn't hit every note. Today he sings the intro much better. Check out the versions from the 90ies and from nowsays. The tuned down the guitars in 1999 but he can still sing the notes until A5
