ahhh the good old days! and also, the 3 weeks of shows, 2 weeks hiatus thing didnt start until the last decade or so. before then, u may have an occasional week not aired, but from September til about april or may, you had ur show everyweek. pretty soon we are going to have a couple of 2 hour mini series type episodes and then be done for the year! actors had it alot harder back then!
This promo was the LAST time you'd see Andy Griffith play Andy Taylor as a "HICK!"
With the second season, Andy realised he had to play the "straight man" to all these "hicks" in Mayberry. So, if you'll notice, Andy's character changed in the 2nd season.
Andy mellowed out and became the "voice of reason."
Andy's speach pattern and accent even changed!
"The Andy Griffith Show " was the first TV "spinnoff" ever!
There's always syndication!! These episodes will live,beyond the remainders of our lives!!! We don't have to put up with the "garbage" of today!! These episodes play daily,on local and cable tv! Not to mention, on DVD.
Because this is the "Monday" segment of this September 1961 preview show, 'pmoshay'. Dick's series originally appeared on Tuesday nights when it premiered; see the "Tuesday night preview" segment for a highlight from the first episode...
It's not that there are no talented writers, it's that the industry is not encouraging better writing. What you see is the "taste,: of the lack of it on the part of the programming executives who places shows to impress those in their own circle. They have no connection or feeling for their audience. In the arrogance, they think you will watch such things because it is there.
Great stuff..I remember the line up but was too young to stay up for Andy Griffith..I could hear laughter in the livingroom from my bedroom and my older siblings talking about the show the next day!
The "PETE & GLADYS" excerpt seen here is from the April 17, 1961 episode "Junior" {just when think you're going to babysit for a "seven year-old child", it turns out to be a...}
I love Andy Griffith and other shows and collect them. When I need to relax I play them. Today there is good TV shows they are all sex, violence or stupid.
This was from a syndicated fall preview show, sent out to the CBS affiliates in early September 1961, just before the new season began. This excerpt features the Monday night line-up {all times Esatern}:
Monday on CBS is the most tolerable night--"Two & A Half Men" & "The New Adventures Of Old Christine" being semi-watchable sitcoms. There are three others also on the CBS Monday night roster. Other than those & "According To Jim" (ABC Tuesdays), there are no more traditional, three-camera sitcoms on the three major networks. "Back To You" (with Kelsey Gramer & Patricia Heaton) & "Till Death" (starring Brad Garrett) on Fox Wednesdays are about the best sitcoms currently on TV.
I wonder where they filmed these CBS TV show previews?

As a kid I always looked forward to the new TV season. The Chicago Tribune TV guide with the new show previews was much anticipated. Good times.

The reason TV is terrible is because there are not talented writers. Network TV executives think all we want are the so called "reality" shows.

Nice to see Bud Collyer for To Tell The Truth. I sure wish this was the Monday night lineup today instead of the garbage that is on every channel.
