i had played a demo off this years a go from a dreamcast magazine, i was convinced it had came out, you'd think if if your playing a playable demo the games just about to get released ?
but i have no idea why they didnt ?
ive dowmloaded it, going to burn it to a disk and have a good gaming session.
@ugforthewin yeah the good thing about the dreamcast console was that copied games played perfectly without modding and bootdiscs, etc. I remember I downloaded halflife w blueshift addon and it worked great but I got halfway through the game and it crashed on me. I also hated those leech monsters
I had this on Dreamcast. Save games were really shaky and it finally fucked up on the last level (I think) and I had to start from the beginning. Except I didn't, I just chucked the disc into the back of my cupboard and never went back to it.
I'm a PC player for Half Life 1 and have not played PS2 version so when I see an M4 and not an MP5 I immediately think "Decay" x_x because of the PC Port.
And those loads are much slower than even as if it was on a Windows 98. I mean I get that it reads levels from the CD but still.
@ExtremeBogom No, you took massive offense, otherwise you wouldn't have bothered bitching about a harmless comment, and then topping it off with a damn horse for some reason
Your reply was uncalled for and unproductive as the truth, of how an old ass PC system still loads a level faster than a SDcast, can't be argued against. As far as I care, I haven't demonstrated squat to you, you've demonstrated to me how much of a child one can be over a simple truth.
@ExtremeBogom The ps2 version actually looks and in my opinion plays a lot better than the pc original, maybe you both should shut up if you don't know what your talking about.
@XenoSpyro Not trying to be a troll, but the loading is that long because this is a near-complete prototype, but it is still a prototype, and trimming down load times is generally a last-minute job, which Valve obviously didn't get to for this version...
@XenoSpyro lol true... it's just some people take things the wrong way. Like I'll see an argument between Genesis and SNES and someone will say Genesis had no Polygons, then I mention Virtua Racing and all of a sudden I'm a Sega Fanboy (well, to be true, I am, but I try not to come across like that...)
For me, put aside VRacing which I haven't seen myself, I may be wrong, but I kinda do think that, well both, systems dont have any 3D polygon software on them. (Again I haven't seen VRacing yet). I figure it's only layered 8bit Sprites or whatnot.
@XenoSpyro One thing I always noticed about the first Star Fox was that the background and most objects e.g small meteorites were just single sprite objects, but in VR you can see 3D hills in the background, and whenever you crash a ton of little polygons fall off of your car... I don't know if this answers what you're talking about, I'm not an expert in graphical terms, but I like to think I can at least try to explain stuff like this... Such a shame Starfox 2 ws cancelled, that game looks sick
@PrrrromotionGiven Never played star fox series. I think I know the answer already but was the source code released so other people could work on it? Or was there like nothing left once it was canceled.
You will never find source code for a console game released by the developer. Star Fox 2 got released in beta form. An early beta was leaked, then a later, almost finished beta was leaked. It was almost complete save for the debug info, and a few bugs bugs. A group of people took it, fixed the bugs, and removed the debug info, and released it. You can run it in an emulator.
The system doesn't need "polygon software", as long as the hardware is capable of producing them. Their are computers older than the SNES and Genesis which are capable of producing polygons.
Star Fox, in particular, had the SFX chip, which was a co-processor inside the cart which helped render the graphics. The game did use sprites in some areas, but even games today do that. It doesn't mean the game didn't use polygons.
It wasn't released because Sony told Valve if they did, that they would be shut off from developing for the PS2. At least that's what I had read at the time...
@FragginBastage That's a lie, it wasn't released because Sega went bankrupt and no one knew if they were going to exist anymore.... that's the same reason the dreamcast version of Unreal (not tournament, the original unreal) was canned.
Where did you get this iso? I got mine from DCISOZONE but after I tried to load a game when I died it showed me a black screen with a bunch of programming language on it. Now my dreamcast won't load the disc or iso for that matter on any disc...
@winlover37 I uploaded a newer version a little while ago. Keep in mind all the HL and Mods on the Dreamcast that were ported from the PC version are finicky, Discjuggler hates them. Use Alcohol or ImgBurn with Discjuggler plugins to burn them at 4x speed.
Valve should have released this. It would have been a nice way of sending off the Dreamcast. I need to track down a copy, as I don't know how to burn an iso.
@BlayzedBlue Get IMGBurn with discjuggler plugins and just burn the ISO, couldn't be simpler and you don't have to mess with any settings like you do in Discjuggler.
It was stupid not to release this. It was already completed and there were many great games that came out for the Dreamcast even after it was discontinued.
The Dreamcast was lacking quality first person shooters so this would have been perfect.
dude i know what u mean about playing a pc game on a dc i burnt a great source port of doom 2 and final that i compiled my self with doom 4 dc(ult. doom is on their but it doesnt work for some reason) and i gotta say while not better then playing it with skulltag on a comp its pretty cool
Please tell me you know about the PC HL mods that were ported to Dreamcast! Go to Dcisozone and look under the "H" section of the DC ISO's. I uploaded all the mods ported thus far. We have oher half a douzen games made from PC HL mods.
vga cable that works miracles, and the dreamcast graphics are much sharper, the half life was very good with this cable in your lcd. was better than the ps2 version played with component cable
the ps2 version of it differs by having a co-op mode for two players split-screen, but it is different, and I remember every player plays with a woman, helping to complete the mission, this game mode is different from single player but it's even fun.
the ps2 version also features a 2 player vs mode, with deathmatch with several maps.
ps2 version is a good version, the loads are faster than the dreamcast version. but in matter of graphics I prefer the version of DC.
This is such a fascinating version, I ended up buying the PS2 version which uses all of the higher quality Dreamcast assets as well as adding some additional goodies of it's own.
@wellesraphael As I recall the load screens are still more frequent than the PC version but I couldn't tell you if they were better than the DC's, although I would imagine they were.
It also had it's own Co-Op campaign as well although I forget what it was called.
@wellesraphael no by some twist of fate the ps2 version of half life is BETTER then the original less load times, along with more weapons AND a seperate co-op mode along with better graphics
never knew that they planed to release blue shift on dreamcast that would have been awesome, they both run better then my pc I had ,could never seem to get blue shirt to work
Ironically, you sound a lot like Randy Pitchford from Gearbox lol.

Allow me to enlighten you...
I already mentioned this but I will do so again.
My gripe is that you pointed out that the PC is in fact more powerful than a console.
Yeah...no shit sherlock. So why do you continue to point it out as if it's some kind of defence on your part?
I had to ask myself why anyone would point out something so obvious?
To troll? Superiority complex? Aloofness?
Not exactly flattering...
What will you tell us next? That the sky is in fact blue?
