  • Love the spokes and the hinged reflector.

  • YOU DID AMAZING!!! I'M' THINKING OF DOING THIS FOR MY SCIENCE FAIR PROJECT! I am welcome to any advice. THANK YOU BEFORE HAND. and again awesome!

  • nice job...can you give measurements to the size of the cut outs???

  • It is a beautifully done project and the 340 degrees is an incredible result with tin foil.

  • You did a great job. It is exciting to cook in one....especially if you made it.

  • This is a fantastic design! Thank you for taking time to make this video to show complete detail on it. I'm gonna make one :o)

  • To paint with out smell use natural carbon. You will have enough by burning some wood. If you use the traditional clay potters it will be easer.

  • Just a suggestion: Instead of using black paint, how about burning the inside wood panels of the box to blacken them?

  • Any way of controlling the temperature? Do you talk in Fahrenheit or centigrade?

  • @comama20 degrees F. A vent could easily be installed to release heat but my goal was to try and contain as much as possible. :O) Thanks for the question.

  • bravo

  • What were the angles or measurements on your triangle/rectangle pieces?

  • awesome! thanks for posting

  • Thats a dandy, I like it.

  • As for the reflector size, it makes me excited to see the giant reflectors. Might be able to get by with less, and may even be a little off on the angles but the excitement I get when I see my giant solar oven a roasting away in the yard...

Originally the reflectors were an extra foot longer but a cutting error made me have to cut 'em down a bit. :O)

  • @Naddycat... hi i need some help frm u plz...i need to choose my project for my final year mechanical engg...and i have a tittle with me " investigation into the design and manufacture of solar oven" i need to ask from u that is this area have sufficient information so i can research on it taking as my project...coz i have to make reports and other literature survey...plz reply me asap...cheers!!!!

  • @TheRizzee I will do my best; ask away, if I can't help I am sure lots of the people here will be able to.

  • @Naddycat

    Hey..!

Instead of tinfoil you should use an emergency space blanket… more reflective with less distortion from the ripples in the tinfoil

  • I like your oven but there is no need to have the reflectors so big .

I have a globle sunoven the reflectors are 16 inches highx 22.25 inches wide.

    Four reflectors.

Your makeing it more complicated then it needs to be.

My oven got to 375 deg most of the time its 325

  • good job !! will try your app's with funnel ,,but I covered my last reflector pannels with mylar mirrior film ..greenhouse suppies carries rolls but e-bay was where I located 4ft w / 150 ft roll cheap ..my poorly sealed DIY solar oven hits 270 with a droopy heat stressed plex-glass door ..lot better than foil reflector ..baked a good cornbread though despite heat leaks..slow but tasty and we also think foods taste awsome .. !!

  • You know I wish I had paid more attention when I was making this oven, but here we are...

This cat has a brilliant design, he might be more able to help with the angles. I can't recall where I found 'em online and I wish I had made my oven more slanted so I didn't have to prop it up as the winter months change. Hope this helps :O)

  • What are the measurements and angels of your reflector pieces?

  • wow thats amazing man!

what kind of tinfoil did you use for the reflectors?

not kitchen tinfoil right? thats too fragile and hard to get that flat.

Please share the measurements for that reflector! :)

    Thanks for the inspiration!

  • I did use regular tin foil. I used the heavy duty foil and covered the wood with elmers wood glue (Using a cloth) I just gobbed it and smeared it all over and then rubbed the tin foil down onto it with a clean rag. It worked out really nice. Thanks for all the comments, so happy to hear you enjoyed the video!

  • This is brilliant and very cool.

Makes me proud to be human when I see people doing cool stuff like this. Awesome.

  • Great, awesome. This is what a video should be like.

Some ideas that I've seen elswhere; -1- cover the pot with a oven roasting bag, will cook even faster. -2- The sides don't appear to be 60 deg angle (optimum) but more like 45. -3- And lastly, you say you are happy to answer questions but I see NO replies back from you. thanks.

  • have you measured how much the temp would beinside the oven without the solar reflectors?

  • Nice job!

  • Dude, very, very nice project and video. Tell me, I still want to paint my solar over BLACK, what if I vented the cooker out side for a few days/weeks with the door opened? Will I vent out all the oder then? Great job, please cook some dinner up and have us over, I'll bring the wine.

  • @coldsteel2005

I am currently building another solar oven, I painted the oven black.

If you cook the first times in jars that you close, for example rice or other food, you will not eat with paint odor.

I hope the paint smell eventually disappears, I am using the oven to heat up water I use to make (instant) coffee. I use a bottle that I painted black.

After 45 minutes the water is really hot.

    regards from Mexico

  • Looks like a good design! Where could I get the measurements/proportions for the 60/40 reflector, and what did you call the material? Can I get it at HomeDepot? How about plexiglass for the top of the oven--would it melt?

    Good video, thanks for posting.

  • The swinging pot is a good feature.

  • I'm doing this for a science project, and I'm probably gonna be the only one doing this

  • I like it! I also plan to build one. I built one along time ago back in the 70"s when I was a kid in Upstate New York. Took all day to barely cook one hot dog. I'm in the Philippines now so I'm sure the sun will cook whatever I put into the oven. Have you cooked any meat or fish with that? I'm sure it'd cook very tasty too! Thanks for posting!

  • I like the folding reflectors that is a good idea. I built a solar oven using actual glass mirror but it is heavy and I am redoing them. If you paint the inside with high temperature paint spray can type for barbecues that should work well.

  • anytime you paint the interior, let it heat up with the door slightly open and let it gas off for several days before using. Or, you could use simple black craft acrylic paint or black tempera, both have no odor and can be used the same day.

great oven! hope to see more vids!
