Hi StarvingSound, yes, this may be used for other things you'd like your to leave alone and instead focus on you. You'll want to set up training situations using those items so you can help your dog generalize/learn and be successful. As for chewing on household items, if the dog already has it in his mouth, use/teach a cue like "give" or "trade" combined with redirecting the dog onto proper chew items. If it's a puppy, pick up loose items so the house is "puppy-proof". hope this helps :-)
So - is this useful for when you want them to leave anything alone. Animals while walking around, stuff that want to put in their mouths, or when they are chewing on household stuff?
Excellent i love this tutorial. it is exactly how i teach mine. I always give the animal the reward and never tell them to 'get it' from the floor (like you), so that the leave it becomes like another recall...they have to come to you for the 'take it'! I love chibi Chan, he's sooo cute:)))
@abirdslife, Thank you Cheryl, your comments and support are always appreciated! :-) I know you and Miss Daisy Dog will have fun playing with these exercises! and perhaps others in your group will too :-) Chibi can look serious when he's thinking, then when he figures it out, his tails wags and waves.
Chibi-chan is soooooo cute XD "Leave it" is very important skill for dog to live with people comfortably each other, but almost Japanese dogs are not taught ;-(
@tdfn Thank you Miki :-) I agree, leave it is important and especially for the dog to learn SELF-control. Maybe you and Nono can help teach leave it to more dogs in Japan :-)
Thanks Nancy! Glad it inspired you to polish Junie and Ed's leave it. It is always worth polishing leave it...such an important behavior/cue. Heavy machinery = my air conditioner coming on right behind the camera.
Your videos keep getting better and better, very professionally done, but then Chibi is made for the camera. I need to start working this with J and E again, started the training but not consistant with it. Was that heavy equipment I heard going by in the background?
