Yes,mainstream music is so much more repetitive,bland,and generic.

This music requires a certain taste.I had to be eased into it kinda.I started out liking Haste The Day,moved onto other bands like August Burns Red,then eventually onto converge.Don't be bitter towards them.Ease em in =]

well thats how everyone gets into metalcore and grindcore. u start with the mainstream, bland alternative but start craving heavier music so you go on to punk and grunge, you start listening to clasic rock to see where it all started and then go on to hear some early metallica. you get obsessed with thrash and keep finding newer, heavier, and more underground music the rest of ur life until your too old to take the high volume anymore.

i think there are gems in everything, including mainstream music, and there is shit in everything.

there are so many bands LIKE converge that i think suck just as much (if not more) that hannah montana, and there are so many bands that, for some reason, make it on MTV that do deserve the acclaim (modest mouse, a few others i can't name off the top of my head).

for the most part you're right, but there are exceptions, keep an open mind.

It gives you a good image, you meet nice people out of it, you have fun in the moshes, and best of all, you get kick-ass music.
