I recently aquired a mare who can perform, I believe it's called the fino- very small fast steps. I would love to know how to ride her properly...what bits to use. I have only been able to get the fino a few times by accident...using slight backwards pressure on the bit and a little bit of heel. What is the proper way to ask for fino, and what bit should I use? Your horses are lovely!
@Skippytrucking You are correct, it is called the Fino gait, and only a small percentage of Paso Finos are able to do this. You are lucky to own one! I am not an expert on how to get the Fino gait. To get the right bridle and bit, see CasaDosa.com, get a Colombian bit with bit hanger and a jaquima, they go together. I slouch with my feet forward and look down at the back of my horse's head, pull reins and squeeze with legs both lightly. Watch what Salome's rider is doing, he is a top expert.
@Skippytrucking I am not saying she cannot, just know that the number of horses that can perform the "Fino" are very few. The problem with Paso's is that even the lesser quality horses feel very quick to non-paso fino people they move so differently than other breeds. I train Paso's and would be more than willing to help you if you need it. Message me if you have any questions.

@Skippytrucking I have 2 show finos and I don't use a bit and they do it just fine. It all depends on if your horse neck reigns or not.
