  • @TheSr1m you are an insult the the irish people

  • My favorite version of this song will always be the Ronnie Drew version, but I like this one too

  • yeah..

  • :-)

  • TheSr1m, I appreciate your attempt at making music but you can't be serious?

This song tells of a father losing everything he loved, except his son, and you want to make it into a mindless club tune kids on X can dance to?

    Your version is terrible.

  • @8shitndie that is a terrible disrespect to the irish people

  • @8shitndie May I correct you, this song is about people having to leave a place in Co. Cork called Skibbereen because of the famine.

  • @xshan09x Can I correct you as well. There was no famine in Ireland, there was plenty of wheat, corn and other crops shipped out of the east coast of Ireland during the potato blight.

    Genocide by another name.

  • @johnneycool Do your research! There was a POTATO FAMINE for all the poor and millions died!!

This ISNT a genocide .. Please do your research next time :/

  • @xshan09x ur wrong, as idiots often are, the "potato famine" was caused by a bacteria brought on by the excessive raining of that year. However, The wheat, Barley, etc. was heavily levied and the only way to escape such heavy taxes was by selling it to the british, the brits demanded the grain and supplies for their own people

  • @xXTotalDIsCordXx Don't call me a idiot.. Yes it was a patato famine.. But the ENGLISH refused to help the Irish and left them well enough for dead.. As I said, this isn't a genocide .. But I reccomend reading some information on an Irish website, as English websites are often bias.. I am not saying you're wrong, but there is more to this story then printed in the history books.

  • @xshan09x -_- reread me comment.. there was a potato famine, but that's just it, all that was tainted was potatoes. every other grain and vegetable was unharmed by the bacteria. The food that couldve prevent millions from going hungry was given over to the british. you can read real accounts from survivors ON THE IRISH SIDE, to learn the truth.

  • @xXTotalDIsCordXx I know this. Yes you're right, but those poor enough to be very badly effected had all their other crops taken by ENGLISH landowners to give over to ENGLAND.. adn ENGLAND did not help AS MUCH with the hungry as it should have .. You're correct with what you are saying, but also, this all started because I corrected someone saying this song was about the patato famine, not about sons and a father.. so i dont understand why you contradicted me .. when you are agreeing with me -_-

  • @xshan09x i thought you were agruing that the Brits had no part in it, and i got tired of seeing so much secretarian bullshit from english langers (who have no right to dispute a history they took part in), so i decided to take action.

  • @xXTotalDIsCordXx Okay.. Then it was all a misunderstanding.. I agree with what you are saying

  • @xshan09x english state took the food surpluses from Ireland even during the "famine" as England population was undergoing large population growth and was struggling itself but Eire left to rot

  • @xshan09x

Yes there was a potato blight which was the main crop of the indigenous Irish people due to the small size of their holdings (penal laws), however the large landowners had plenty of wheat and corn but chose to ship it over to England and let people die by the roadside.

Maybe Lizzie will apologise for the deeds carried out by her ancestors who even prevented aid coming in from Turkey and other places as it made them look bad.

Away and do some research of your own.

    Genocide

  • @johnneycool Landowners were English .. And it was called the 'patato famine' so that is why I referred to it as a famine..

I don't expect the Queen to apologise for this.. and that is all this country is concerned with!! 'Looking Good' to the rest of the world.. is this really how you want your country to be seen? Because it surely is not for me!

And believe me, this is my countries research, I have done PLENTY of research!!

    FAMINE.

  • @johnneycool there were actually soldiers at docks to protect these grain shipments , stopping hungry people getting it

  • @johnneycool I wouldn't be that harsh though, Sir Robert Peel was one of the most generous men who ever lived, and if you don't know who he is, then you can go do some research. The English government were horrible back in the day, but they hardly caused the potato blight.

  • @johnneycool

Let's not forget we Irish were the first slaves within the Slave Trade.

Awell as English lords forcing Irish women to mate with the African Negro to create a lighter skinned slave.

  • @johnneycool - there was also plenty of cattle and sheep too.

  • no!

  • tiocfaidh ar la!

  • This is a good song!!

  • Didn't know this song existed until I recently watched an old tape of the Michael Collins film I had lying about in a cupboard. A very haunting, beautiful song. Thanks for putting up some of the older stuff mate.

  • very good love dis song...

  • I have an older recording (cica 1970) of this song by a much younger Wolftones, which has a fast, haunting tempo.

  • Monty....I will have to ask my son how to do this, as I will need an turntable, etc.

  • good stuff

  • You'll need an adaptor to wire the turntable output to your soundcard, and a sound recording program that will work with analog input.

I'm pretty sure Audacity would work.

  • TY MAN

  • Most enjoyable!

  • brilliant version!
