  • Amazing

  • @hesmon Yes he did. Sorry but Stevie was technically a better player than Jimi Hendrix and his version of Voodoo Child is far, far superior.

  • eargasm

  • to me SRV is my favourite guitarist. but i do think jimi hendrix was more innovative in his live recordings. but it doesnt matter, its just my opinion. its not right and its not wrong. theyre different guitarists but both give me goosebumps

  • To everyone who insists on comparing SRV and Hendrix, it's as simple as this: Hendrix = more innovative. SRV = better guitarist. (But none of this matter because...) Both = awesome. Quit arguing and get the fuck down with the music.

  • @kingofthemosh Zakk Wydle did a better cover

  • @kingofthemosh Actually, I'd have to argue that Jimi was easily as skilled as SRV, and probably even more so. I love SRV and Jimi both, but I find that Jimi was a little too into experimenting at at times, while SRV wasn't so into that. If you're more of an artist with your music, you'd probably prefer Jimi, but in my opinion, SRV has a much better groove.

  • i was working as a security guard at one of stevies concerts six months before stevie died and got to see him play live. I didnt know who he was at the time but man he rocked the house that night. My friend was in the audience and ask me if he could go back stage. I told my friend to go get his guitar in his car and come back. Steve hand signed my friends guitar. My friend still thanks me for getting him back stage, since then im a big stevie fan!! great memories

  • @sidsgano thats awesome!

  • what happened to the rest of it? geeezzzzzzzzz !

  • SRV...R.I.P.

  • what the fuck is this, first Jimi, then SVR... whoo's next? KWS?

  • Among many of his voodoo chile, this is the coolest guitar solo of all.

  • The solo part @ 3:36 is true SRV - absolutely amazing !!!

  • @tony9L9L

    Whatever..its your opinion

  • @jalfredl Everybody laughs at stevie except inbred texans, stevie put the 'ass' in Texass.

  • @tony9L9L

No way man...SRV is one of the legendary icons of Texas.

btw... George W. Bush is the "ass" in TexASS..not stevie

  • @jalfredl SRV-part man, part helicopter, part ski resort but total junkie.

  • @tony9L9L

So you're saying that SRV was part machine...no surprise there since not many people could play like him.

  • @jalfredl He WAS robotic, yes you are right.

  • @tony9L9L don't be talking about Texas or Texans like that. I'm from Texas and it's a great place. and you say everybody laughs at Stevie, that's where you're wrong. he's known as one of the greatest guitarists in the world

  • @ryanmacdaddy1000 Its pity not admiration that you have for the old helicopter crasher.

  • Comment removed

  • @tony9L9L wrong again genius. I love Stevie Ray Vaughan. He's one of my heroes. and when you say "the old helicopter crasher" you sound like you're saying "he crashed his helicopter on purpose" and that right there is a lie

  • @ryanmacdaddy1000 He could have been drunk and fooling around with the pilot, we will never know.

  • @tony9L9L why don't you look up some info before posting crap like that up? the helicopters took off in very foggy weather. the year Stevie died would've been his fourth year of sobriety. so he obviously wasn't drunk and messing with the pilot.

  • @ryanmacdaddy1000 Yeah I heard that conspiracy, suicide cover-up story to dude. I think someone said there was a note. Maybe he was depressed because he felt responsible for ruining the blues? We will sadly never know.

  • @tony9L9L where are you getting all that? he didn't ruin the blues and his death isn't a "conspiracy, suicide cover-up story." it was thick fog that caused this. that thick, you can hardly see anything. it was an accident. it's a miracle that the other choppers made it over the hills.

  • @ryanmacdaddy1000 You believe in miracles? Miracle or suspicious? The other helicopters proove that something went badly wrong in Stevie's chopper, but what? Did he press the fuel cut-off button for a laugh causing the death of so many, a sort of accident/suicide? Or did he touch the pilot in a 'wrong' way causing them to plunge into the ground? We will never know.

  • @tony9L9L seriously, he said he was really needing to get to Chicago so why in the world would he do anything like what you just put up? maybe you're right, maybe we'll never know the whole truth, but I will never believe Stevie was that idiotic to do something that stupid.

  • SRV is far better than Hendrix.

  • Stevie does it even better than Jimi.

  • @daddystabz no he didn't.

  • Slide return

  • Lucy I have all SRV recording on DVD but still upload the whole song! this is one of his best recording!

  • Are you freakin kidding me you chopped the song what the hell is wrong with you!

I was in the zone and you killed it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Help me someone teach this guy how to up load!

  • 2:37-2:45 is still one of the coolest fills I've ever seen or heard.

  • This comes to prove that there was a black and a white beast ass guitarist of all time jimi back to back with Stevie own the world of blues just to show that any race can achieve this with dedication

  • Jizzin my pants at 2:05 =D

  • Did you see those bends on the second fret?????? With .13's!!!!!!!! He could do those in his sleep!!!! SRV is a freaking animal!!!!!

  • @ZeppelinFan6980 Stevie bent that 2nd fret "G" string on almost EVERY song. I'm still amazed by it after watching him for 20+ yrs.

  • @pizzulo81 I know man it is sick he had God's fingers...Nobody plays that note with more attitude and authority than SRV.

  • 3 people prefer the Justin Beiber rendition

  • Whoever dislikes this has no soul!

  • @lavoy006

they only disliked this rendtiion because it was only 5:21 minutes long, instead of 8-hours long

  • i cant read music but that way he plays it different is just so amazing starting at 2:31. when i was watching black hawk down and they were playing that during the flight into solomia. I know it was just on the soundtrack. I would deffinatly want that on some mp3. i would feel invicible. he has some amazing solos, life without you is my fav.

  • and i set out to learn this entire song (this version) a few years back, and i can say from personal experience that the solo starting @ 3:20 is a BITCH. the alternate picking between the low E and the first 3 strings takes brutal pick hand coordination.

  • the differences is this. jimi used a lot more distortion. stevie is cleaner sound. both are legends!

  • 3 people stood up next to a mountain and got chopped down by the edge of stevie's hand

  • genuine blues rockstar!!!

  • Better than Jimmys

what, think who fukin invented it

    anyone can just copy it

but if i wasnt aware of jimmys death id be sure SRV was him

  • @GNRlast if you are a hendrix fan, it least spell his name right, it's jimi.

  • The Hendrix performance of this song at Woodstock rapes this version into smithereens!

  • I love it. This is my favorite song. It really is amazing how long Stevie can jam on the same rhythm for over 10 minutes in some cases and still play good sounding unique licks. Great guitar player and man. R.I.P. Stevie Ray Vaughan.

  • he's just...flawless. not one mistake, clean notes..

ive been watching this video since im 14 years old and it never gets old

  • long live the king

  • I go with Jimi on this one. I don't really listen to his studio version thats why. If you catch a few of his live versions you'd know why. You can't go wrong with this version either though.

  • This should be in the dictionary next to cool. Amazing : )

  • dude without a doubt, i love jimmy and he did create the song so props for him but as far as tone, timing and just making your heart beat with soul and groove its all stevie

  • Oh YEAH! Play dat funky Muzaq white boy! lol! awesome version yes/no?

  • @guitar620: i don't think so...jimi is the guitar god!

  • all those people did not feel that song fuck them all for just sitting there and doing nothing what a waste of a night for svr

  • Eclectic Hypnotic Sound!

    But, Cant Touch Hendrix!

  • I got his autograph on a du MAURIER package :))) The after Concert PARTY MIX was intense! My My future wife was there too, unbeknownst; along with her brother. He drank water all night. Back when he got straight. I agree he does come out with better engineering and mixing in his mix. But no one could play like Jimmy.

  • Part 2? PART 2?! NOOOOO!

  • Where's the rest of it?

  • SRV's version is really good but it just doesn't have that in your face rough sounding like the amp is gonna explode at any second and its all gonna fall to pieces sound its a lot more structured with SRV's way but their both amazing so what the hell haha

  • ERTENALLY GREAT!!!

  • My jaw just drops every time I see this performance...Just UNfuckingReal...!!!

  • that strat is so worn ot worse then Gallaghers but so nice guitar i would like to have it

  • Comment removed

  • Magic in those fingers! Fire in that soul! Like a insane beast playing for release! Release from what?? Only SRV could answer that question, we can only feel the outer perimeter of his torment! And for us it's surely enough! Joey Vaughan "World Blues Attack"

  • wow this version is way better than any other version

fucking insane, el mocambo and this one = best

the other ones just sound fucked and out of tone and off beat

  • @mikedh12 monteruex 85? fucking amazing his tones are always on point man

  • @megajames3000 haha i meant SRVs versions.

but obviously, i have no clue what montereux is

  • @mikedh12 haha dude it's on the side he's got that hamiltone stratocaster

  • that breakdown is fookin sexy.

  • I hate the whos better people their so annoying. Alot of people on youtube are morons. They call this song voodoo chile. S.R.V. was an avid Jimi Hendrix fan.

  • not bootleg, this is from an austin city limits performance. i have a copy i found at the pawn shop so it shouldnt be hard to get.

  • Does anyone know which bootleg this is from, by any chance??

As for about the vid, SRV is absolute hero... I love his expression and emotion he puts into playing. It just compliments the song beautifully. Masterfully aggressive. haha.

Btw, if anyone listens to them, have you noticed the 'Tool'-esque basslines/beat?! haha

  • wow my face just melted into a puddle on the floor after the lick at 2:10

  • @blueshead808 yeah thats a killer lick.

  • This i pure gold!

If it wasen't for SRV i wouldn't have made i trough the 80s

Thank you so much for uploading this.

  • i wish i could have seen this man live..

  • da bekomm ich gänsehaut...

  • this is a sick..sick man

  • I don't know how you can argue that SRV's version is better than the man who created the song! I'll give him credit though, he does an excellent job, but I'll always defer to the original.

  • @PoeJoe8 It doesnt matter who does the original...SRV's version if you know anything about guitar, from a skill level, is leaps and bounds better than hendrix's version, plus SRVs guitar tone itself is way way better than hendrix's tone ever was, especially this live version. SRVs recorded version is way more professionaly done and polished as well. Bob Dylan's All Along the Watchtower sucks donkey compared to Hendrix's yet, dylan was the original...you gonna tell me dylan's was better now???

  • @dmb3305 Hendrix was never about having a better tone. The fact is only a small portion of this is SRV, most of it is just recycled licks and tricks already on the song with a little tampering. SRV is a great guitarist, just as if not better then jimi on some levels.

  • @GetYourAlbatros Thanks hahah u said what i did but smarter. basically they where tied. and he was just trying to be stevie while jimi did what he felt in 3 short years. where srv had 10 and he had jimi to influence himwhich help. they both changed my life in ways the other cant there amazing

  • amazing to see the pregression of the wear on that guitar. Other vids it is worn down to all wood. Wonder where that guitar is today. Must be in a museum?

  • @310taylor stevie's older brother, jimmie, has it stored away in a warehouse with all the rest of stevie's rig and gear. he said in an interview he couldn't stand looking at it because it reminded him too much of stevie. rest in peace, my brother.

  • This version is quite good. I It reminds me of the version in Japan.

  • I think Madonna should get into a helicoptor.

  • Craaaaaazy Stevie! We miss you

  • hey jforizzel

    if you think you're stupid....

    YES YOU ARE

this is not the whole song :|

    mzzl

  • I love watchin stevie play, it looks so effortless for him, the notes just flow naturally one after the other.

Simply put, the man was born to play the guitar.

  • ya i agree ..........

  • srv's version sounds better than jimmys.............

  • hey hey now, NEITHER IS BETTER. They are BOTh awesome at the same rate. Saying Stevie Ray is better is discretiting Jimi, Saying Jimi is better is discrediting Stevie Ray. With 2 AWESOME GUITARISTS like Himi hendrix and STevie Ray Vaughan you CANNON compare them with eachother.

  • @guitar620 you cant compare.... to be even lets turn the hands of time back and let jime remake one of srv;s songs.. they both are great.. lets enjoy the music n not try n say one is better bc Jimi changed the world.. can srv come up wit this w/o jimi?not askin but food for thought... Rock on 2 of the best of all time

  • @martinhfleming I agree 100%. Jimi and Stevie were both unique. No need to compare one to the other. I just L O V E the song to pieces ...

  • @guitar620 NOTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!! p.s. its jimi you moron get it right

  • @guitar620 its cuz stevie perfected it after it was a hit

  • @guitar620 Nothing like the Hendrix version!

  • @leninweblb i agree. its better.

  • @guitar620 what are you smoking? Im smoking weed and I disagree with you. strongly!!

  • @guitar620 srv probably has a better technique but I think Jimi's versions have more feeling to them.

  • @guitar620 for me no

  • @guitar620 idk man they sound pretty similar ima have to do with jimi's version. i think theres more feeling to the words and solo

  • @guitar620 lol im sorry but jimmy actually made this song. but still srvs is bloody awsome.

  • @guitar620 by far

  • @guitar620 yeah generally - but jimmy is the blueprint without jimmy they is no SRV they are both dirty as F>>> tho!

  • @guitar620 spell Jimi correct thank you. I like both. Two different tones.

  • @guitar620 Jimi's Voodoo Child is like a Picasso painting. Every second of that song is perfect. SRV comes close, but nobody will ever play it like Jimi did.

  • @guitar620 it's jimi.

  • @guitar620

    PFFFFFFFF!

  • @guitar620 You're smoking crack. Hendrix can never be beat.

  • @guitar620 Stop comparing people. I hate that. I love both Jimi and SRV. You can't just say one's better. Stevie's got the Texas Tone and soul and Jimi's just got raw passion....They are both so unique. It's been said a million times but just don't compare people. We all have are opinions and just cuz one person likes the sound of one better doesn't make it better.

  • @guitar620 its illegal to say things like that man.

  • @beno2367 the anonymity provided by the internet leads to such truthful, yet illegal, statements.

  • @guitar620 cleaner and meaner. just the way i like 'em. (that sounded kinda creepy, but you get the point.)

  • Its way better then Jimmy. He makes Jimmy's version slow and boring.

  • @DENBOSCH123 "Slow and boring", thats controversial. Well, there wouldnt be this without "Slow and boring". So shut up, Jimi made the song, SRV put his twist on it, no matter what, Hendrix made the song. So "Slow and boring" makes "way better".

And P.S. Learn to spell *Jimi* Hendrix please, fuckin tools who slate him, and cant even spell his name right.

  • dont do this, jimmys version is best, i like stevies more but you cant do this to jimmy he doesnt deserve it.

  • Did you see the version of Hendrix at Woodstock? I think they have pretty equal energy in the song compared to this one. You might like how he plays it slightly faster then.

  • @DENBOSCH123

Why do people keep hearing a cover that might be better than the original and think that means the covering artist must be better? It an awesome cover but he's just learnt it and put his own style to it. Actually writting it is 100 times more work and 100 times more an acheivment. Why don't people not get this?

  • @nomis101uk Its about performance - Simon Cowell wrote numerous hit songs, but does anyone want to see him perform them? Writing words on paper is NOT 100 times more difficult than making people feel something when they hear the music - both Jimi and Stevie Ray could do that and then some, some people just like one more than the other as an ARTIST

  • @aaronetics You think writting a song like voodoo child is just "writting words on paper"?...wow...ok. Just wow.

And I guess if I learnt the violin and put on a stella performance of Pagannini's 24th caprice that makes me as talented as Pagannini himself then? Brilliant. You know I play a pretty mean Scuttle Buttin'! I guess I must be almost as great as SRV.

  • @nomis101uk wow you missed the point...somebody out there might actually like your version of Scuttle Buttin', and actually think you are a "better" artist than SRV...granted, that person's probably going to be your wife, mom, or best friend, but for them, the experience you created by playing that song was "better" for them than watching SRV's video - get it? And for some people, yes-writing songs is easier than playing them. Wow.

  • I only regret SRV's voice is not loud enough...

  • It looks like he's afraid of getting shocked by the mic. 1:14

  • im 14 years old and ive been playing guitar since i was 8 and ever since i was 5 years old stevie was my hero

  • whos that little elf girl at 1:23

  • What can you say, Just Awesome!!!!

The guitar was just another part of his body.

Hendrix might have wrote this song, but man Stevie definitely does it justice.

  • better than hendrix

    R.I.P my hero

  • fuck all those people there for not dancing.

  • I agree, i would be rocking out, feeling every note!

  • Yeah man! I have this concert on video and i've always wondered: how can they sit so still?? strange...

  • It's cause they're awe-struck :)

  • That's it! haha, thanks Davide! :)

  • @mikey420sf You don't dance to this, you sit and appreciate how amazing it is...cool name by the way now everyone knows how cool you are for smoking pot

  • @mikey420sf you should of seen hendrix audience they were quiet as crickets!

  • @alexc475

That was probably cuz they didn't know what ust hit them xD

    These people have no excuse!!

  • @mikey420sf Maybe they were chocked by his awesome guitar-playing so they couldn't move. It must be that :)

  • i know i have been experienced now

  • Man, a fantastic rendition, anyway, but such a special highlight, when he gets into that immense powerful hitting the guitar, over and over again, at 4:39 and the way the drummer goes along with it. So intense, it totally moves me.

  • got the chance to see him perform months before he died at the David Letterman 8th anniversary special in Studio City, Ca. he was awesome!

  • Stevie, not particularly an attractive man, but the way he handles that axe of his, and the raw excitement of a great song done by the other master that I am not worthy of, well, quite frankly, makes me errr.. in the mood.............

  • stevie ray was one flambouyant dude. u match that with his gifted guitar skills, and u say who will come along since the likes of stevie ray vaughn? Nobody!! God bless u man! RIP.

  • The man !

  • can anyone find the video where he does the solo at 2:07 AND shakes a dudes hand at the same time? I remember seeing it one time and haven't been able to find it since

  • After this video I got a stain on my pants and its not gonna come off lol.....

  • yeah, but how

  • 2.57-3.01, how?

  • no pedal for sure. amazing

  • 3:35 just look at his face he is so into the song its fuckin amazing there aINT NO ONE HU CAN DO THAT BIT NOT EVEN HENDRIX and its his song!!!

  • no shit sherlock

  • 2:36 those hammer-ons get me everytime... goddamn amazing.

  • Stevie was a mighty angel.

  • uhhh... a lot of people should no that wen he did this live show he was on drugs. thats y hes really nervous and sweating. plus notice he voice is a little messed up at the begining.

  • unbelievable to think that he did more than 7 grams of coke a day at one point eh? then he turns it around, makes good on everything and cleans up, then drunk pilots crash him into a ski hill, life's a bitch eh
