@matthewschofield2001 Please accept my apologies for the delayed response. Yes, this model is compatible with all versions of the iPod Touch. You will find the complete iPod/iPhone compatibility chart for this and any other stereo under the “Details” section for the product on the main Crutchfield website. @MECA62793 Please accept my apologies for the delayed response. It sounds like the unit may have lost the 12 volt constant power and defaulted back to “Demo” mode. You can turn off the Demo mode by pressing and holding the “select” button until the setup display menu appears. Select “Demo” from the menu and press the knob to change it to “Demo-Off”. HTH!--Crutchfield
is it normal for the heat-sink of the HU to get very hot at middle volume level??? Mine gets hot so that you can't touch it more than 4-5 seconds. I have made the installation 100% according to the manuals. Some say it's not normal but some indicates malfunction. Can anyone help me please?
@85vaska While all stereos will get warm, they should not get so hot you cannot touch them where they are supposed to be touched. If it’s only the heat sink that gets too hot, then you should be fine. If you cannot touch the faceplate, then something is definitely wrong. Feel free to call for additional assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield
@Pikinos Yes, the Sony can fit in the dash of your 2004 Subaru Forrester. We offer a “dash pocket” for taking up the additional space left by the removal of the larger factory stereo. You can find all the stereos and speakers we recommend to fit your vehicle by using the “Outfit My Car” section of the Crutchfield website. You can also call us for additional assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield
@ANDREWDELEON23 The Sony can be made to fit with modifications to the factory mount. The '78 uses a "Shaft Style" mount and would have to be custom cut for the standard "single DIN" style chassis. You can see everything that is a recommended fit in your vehicle by using the “Outfit My Car” section of the Crutchfield website. You can also call for additional assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield
@SINSARMY Yes the Sony will fit a 1986 Chevrolet El Camino with the proper mounting kit and the removal of the factory radio's rear support bracket.. You can see everything that is a recommended fit in your vehicle by using the “Outfit My Car” section of the Crutchfield website. You can also call for additional assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield
@RICH123nick Yes the Sony will fit a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier with the proper mounting kit. You can see everything that is a recommended fit for your vehicle by using the “Outfit My Car” section of the Crutchfield website. You can also call for additional assistance: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield
@TheIRONMAN1408 This stereo is a quarter of an inch too deep to fit in your 97 Regal's dash. You many be able to custom build a dash kit to make it fit.
I wanna get this stereo BUT can it do trhe all important task ?
Can it let you answer a phone call thru head unit or as normal... and then talk hands free towards the phone whilst hearing the person thru the car speakers ?
I can do this with my nokia X6
No one mentions talking on the phone whilst connected to the stereo ?
The answer to this lies probably more with the model phone you'll be using rather than the stereo. I've seen many phones than can do what you describe when connected to the AUX input, put the phone on "speaker" and you can hear the caller through your car speakers, they hear you from the mic built into the phone.
I don't think this will work when connected via USB with any phone, but it's not something we have tested.
Im from the uk so cant call. If you could test this with an I phone that'd be great
With my nokia Its so handy havin that option. I can even play music whikst my phones sat nav is on & hear both of them through the car speakers on an ancient old late nineties stereo
We are currently building a testing lab where we can easily test this sort of thing whenever it comes up. When we are up and running with that, I'll test it and let you know.
I did a lot of comparing with a few brands like Alpine, Pioneer, JVC & Kenwood also around my price budget and it came down to this unit. I ordered it around 2am Sunday i cannot wait! The only thing that kinda sucks but isn't that big of a deal (because i use my ipod alot) is that its not a flip down face, so if your playing a CD you have to take the faceplate off first since there is no CD slot on it
Yes it definitely does have subwoofer controls: The unit's sub outputs feature a low pass filter with a selectable cut-off frequency of 50Hz, 60Hz, 80Hz, 100Hz, 100Hz, 120Hz, or Off. You can also adjust the slope (1/2/3) of the high-pass crossover. You can adjust the subwoofer preamp output's volume level independently from the headunit's volume control from -10 to +10 in 1dB increments. You can also select the phase of the sub output.
I'm not sure why you say you can't use an iPhone 3 or 4 with this radio, it is fully compatible with all versions of iPhone released to date. And you can use the iPhone while it is connected. For all these details and more, including an iPod/iPhone compatibility chart, search for CDX-GT650UI on the Crutchfield Website then click "Hands on Research."
@crutchfieldtv Ipads can not get charged the same way iphones 3gs do, infact connected to the computer does nothing, and in the car i tried usingh the cig charger but it failed too, i had to buy a charger that reads FOR IPAD and IPHONE 4, if you look around many people are returning the outdated version one ipod car radios,. its why i am asking if this works with the iphone 4 or ipad, i yet to hear anything positive
BTW, i have the Sony CDX-GT650UI in front of me now and i am returning it, it can not charge a ipad or iphone 4, costs money to have it installed for nothing then to have to pay again becuase its your fualt if you buy the wrong thing, the guys who install it should know but.... hey... they need to sell what they have
First, I apologize, I didn't read your original comment carefully enough, didn't realize you said iPad, I was thinking iPod, sorry.
As for the iPhone 4, our info shows it does work with, and should charge the iPhone 4. Of course, new software versions can change compatibility, plus it's possible there's been a mistake. I will pass this info along to our product research guys to see if we can verify iPhone 4 charging capability.
We grabbed a Sony CDX-GT650UI out of our inventory, and we got an iPhone 4 that had iOS version 4.2.1. and we plugged the iPhone into the front panel USB port on the Sony.

Nice presentation!
Do you know if I can install this in a Subaru Forester 2004? I currently own the 2DIN factory CD/Radio.
As far as I have checked, no mounting kit is necessary, but a pocket kit to fit the rest open gap after installing the new radio.
Any feedback would be great! :)
