This was originally the anthem of the Papal States, see Noi vogliam Dio. There is also a beautiful mexican catholic hymn with the same tune, Tu reinaras.
@savaranola611 Thank you for the heads up. From what I understand, St. Louis de Montfort (died 1716) wrote the lyrics and was incorporated into a melody. I guess it became popular in the Papal States and was recognized as the hymn of the papal states. Later, a Triumphal March by Hallmayer replaced it during the reign of Pius IX. It was then replaced by Pope Pius XII with the current Pontifical Hymn by Gounoud.
Lyrics: We want God, Oh, men ungrateful To the Supreme Father, to the Redeemer The foolish laugh at the faith In vain they rise, against the Lord. Bless, O Virgin The proclaiming of our faith We want God who is our King We want God our Father (repeat last two) We want God, ready we go His holy law, to defend Always we vow, here to serve Him We want God until we die (repeat refrain)
I love the teaching of the great St. Louis de Montfort but he was no song writer. By they way guys it's okay to stage a video when your doing it for this reason so tell the guys to stay out of the frame. But hey why not music videos with a conscience. Just kidding. I love ya'll and I support what you do. Sometimes with my wallet. Ipsa Conteret.
You are wearing vests, religious habits, the Heralds of the Gospel. How is a religious entity, you also participate and the Heralds have permission to use their clothing?
@dacatholicbandorgan Haha. I wish our choir can sing in French. But, if the day comes that the Holy Ghost grants us the gift of tongues, then I'll post an update.
I agree, in principle, unfortunately, my dear friend, you have not heard our French pronunciation yet. Alas, English would be less hurtful to the ear.
This one is too silly for me. I'm pleased for those who are having their fun and expressing their faith. I suspect the portuguese/brasi branch of TFP would better reflect my cultural and musical taste.

One of my all-time favorite songs! I mean really, how much better can you get, then the words of St. Louis, set to a Cristero marching tune?
